Football NFL Draft: Top 10 safeties heading into the NFL Combine

Without a doubt Brisker is deserving of being ranked 2nd. Hopefully he sneaks into the end of the first round.

That's a very deep list. Can't go wrong even up to Cross. Great athletes and field presence for all of them. Only real thing that separates them is speed.

I would put him at 3rd behind Hamilton and Cine. Should be an early second round pick at worst tho.
You may be right. I think Brisker has shown more consistency than Cine but Cine definitely has an extremely high ceiling. Hamilton's easy the top guy.

So Brisker is 6-1, 210 pounds, Hamilton is 6-3, 183 pounds, and Cine is 6-1, 180 pounds. The linked article says Hamilton is "hands down the best safety in the draft," and "covers far more ground than anyone else in the draft." Perhaps. But how effective is he as a run stopper?

But my question is, what would you consider the ideal weight for an NFL safety? Seems to me that both Hamilton and Cine are pretty light, at 180 pounds, to be playing safety in the NFL. That surely helps with their speed and quickness, but they are routinely gonna have to tackle guys who weigh a whole lot more. I think Brisker, at 210 pounds, is better suited to the rigors of the NFL. My guess is that both Hamilton and Cine will pick up at little body mass over the next few years.

Thoughts?

Like you said, Hamilton and Cine will probably put on 10-15 pounds and might even have that by the combine (we'll find out later this week) but I don't believe that would even be a factor when drafting a safety. Hamilton is the best on paper. Doesn't mean some won't like Brisker more or that Hamilton will end of being the best but the odds of Hamilton going before Brisker is probably close to 100%

I’ve heard rumors Brisker is about to put up some absolutely amazing numbers at the combine. Be interested to see what it does to his draft stock if he runs in the 4.3’s. I think Brisker ends up being a better all around player than Cine and Hamilton. He’s build to stop the run and has better pass coverage grades.

Love Brisker...would love for the Eagles to get him either in the first or second round. Bad luck against Illini, but that dude just makes plays. And hits like none other since James Boyd.
