FYI, Woods is only guaranteed to play in the US Open thru 2018. The US Open only gives a
10 year exemption for past winners. No problems with playing in the other majors, the Masters and PGA Championship give lifetime exemptions, and the Open Championship gives winners exemptions for players thru age 60. So to continue to play in the US Open, he must win another major, win the Players (three year exemption), finish high in the previous years US Open, or reach the top 60 in the world rankings. Otherwise, after 2018, he would have to go thru regional qualifying.

If a typical guy shoots 16 over par at the local course AND treats everybody like dirt, chances are he's not going to have many playing partners for very long. Woods got away with his surliness when he was on top of the world, but he probably realizes that he can't act like that when he's missing the cut every week.

When I was playing, if I was 16 over at the local course I'd be buying rounds for the place. That's an 88 which for me would be a great round. There's no percentage in treating people like crap, period. Maybe El Tigre should have listened to more Little Feat....

True, but 16 over par for those guys is like 30 over par for us. Not that you and I have ever done that, of course.

Actually +16 was for two rounds so you just shot a pair of 78s79s or 80s.....which means you'd not only be buying drinks for the place, but doing it two days in a row. You'd be KING OF THE WORLD but too drunk to remember it!

Listened to a couple of "experts" on ESPN radio late last night. Both were former pro golfers, both agreed that Woods is done because of physical issues, namely his back. They commented that his swing is all wrong because of the back and they felt there is no answer for him.
But, the moderator added that until Golf comes up with a "substitute" Woods playing will continue for ratings. Apparently when he does not play, the ratings are WAY WAY down.
As a former tennis player at a pretty high level I know what a "non-fixable" back problem can do. I was recruited to play tennis in college and given a grant to attend school, but a back injury forced me to stop playing at the level I needed to. I still play "casual" tennis but clearly not the same.
Not sure if Woods can find a way, Ben Hogan did, but it does bring "attention" to the game. For good and bad.

If you ever wanted his autograph, now is probably the best time to try and get one. He's bound to want/need to ingratiate himself with the same people he used to blow by.

Maybe his previous attitude was part of the reason he was on top of the world.

Fox's US Open coverage is hard to watch (and not just because of the weird looking course).

I'm no fan of Joe Buck doing football or baseball, but he's worse as an anchor for a golf telecast.

His fall from grace is nothing short of tragic. Like him or not, he was the most popular athlete in the world, and was so much better than the field. He's one of the greatest golfers of all time, and some could legitimately argue that he was THE greatest ever. And then all of the sudden...BAM...gone, all of it. That it was by his own doing only adds to the tragedy.

Buck is such a superior, monotone, emotionless drone. He has to have photos of somebody to get all the great gigs he gets. I'm enjoying the Shark, though.

Fox only provides the view from the right side of the fairway

Joe Buck could make a Roman orgy seem boring and uneventful.

Fox still can't follow a golf ball in the air, whether it's from the left or right side of the fairway.

Well the one constant year to year.....all the dickheads at the event that have to yell something like "mashed potatoes" or "marshmallows" after every shot.

Throw their sorry asses off the course.

I just saw a cameo of some dude in a fright wig on 16 tee. At least I don't have to hear that one. I actually heard a cell phone ringing earlier. I've been to two US Opens and the Bridgestone Firestone and they wand you and make you empty pockets and walk thru metal detector. NO cell phones. Somebody loves their phone that much that they secreted it somehow. The way some of these guys act it was probably in a body cavity.

In showing the players' entrance yesterday, they let a golfer in (I don't remember who it was) but diverted his wife to search her stuff and have her go through a metal detector. Interesting especially since this course could easily drive a golfer into psycho-mode!

Gutsy effort by Jason Day. Hard not to root for him tomorrow, and he's a class act

I like DJ, but he seems to make some questionable club selections throughout the round. With his talent, he should be up 2-3 shots right now.

I'm a freshly-minted Jason Day fan. Did guys catch the tidbit that his caddy said he had to talk him out of WDing 3 times on the back? Yet here he is. I hope he feels back to form tomorrow. I am no fan of Johnson, really. I'd rather almost anybody else win. No matter, it is setting up to be a wire photo finish.

I brought my cell phone to the Open today. Put it in the tray, walked thru, guy gave it back to me. Same deal at Barclays and Travelers last year

Dustin Johnson is a turd. Looks like one; acts like one.

And Illinois is right - the post shot screaming is out of control. Do these guys think they're funny or witty?

Howard Stern likes playing the "Baba Booie" shouts on his show on Monday mornings. He's contributing to it. "Hey, I can get on Stern if I do this." Don't want to get into a debate about Howard, I find a lot of what he does gut-bustingly funny and much of what he does is sophomoric and unfunny. Guess it depends if you're part of the audience he's clowning or not. Just saying. Maybe he should have the USGA chairperson or whatever he's called as a guest some morning and hash it out.

At some point the Marshall's need to tie that person to the tractor and collects golf balls at a driving range and let the tour professionals take aim at him. And put it on YouTube.

Yikes! Chris Kirk just started his final round with a 10 on the first hole (par 4). Looks like he USGA is keeping 18 as a par 5.

Woods seemed to be able to in his heyday, intimidate the rest of the field. At the same time I do question how strong of a field he faced back then.

Different golfers have different careers, that's all. Between 1975 and 1983, Tom Watson won 8 majors -- there was talk of him breaking Nickalaus's record. Then Watson never won another major even though he was only 33 (he did come close a few times). He played on the PGA tour for another 15 years and won a grand total of about six tournaments after winning about four a year from 74-83.

Seve Ballesteros won five majors by the time he was 31 and then never won another.

Then you have a guy like Vijay Singh who never won a major until he was in his forties.

his physical failures started pretty young. he is 39, and the first surgeries and injury time off is almost 7 years ago. he keeps getting one surgery after another followed by a "new swing". maybe this is the product of starting golf at an early age. he always seems to think he is healed and then another injury.
