Nickal vs Realbuto

Unreal. What a great match for two periods. Bo is just amazing with his hips and scrambling ability. Love to watch him wrestle.

Notice how after the 1st period none of the other mats were in action. Almost everyone was standing around watching this match.

Thanks for posting! Bo is flat out entertaining! I was at the Bakersfield dual and got to watch him flatten Hammond up close - you can't blink during his matches or you'll miss something cool for

The match is now free on Flo. I'm surprised this hasn't been linked yet.

My bad. I saw it this morn or early this aft. that the match was available to view to non-subscribers, and held off linking to see if any other matches involving PSUers became available. I should have just linked it at the time. Lesson learned.

You are still a + 1,000 for me--thank you all you do to inform the uninformed like me.

Who was yelling at the ref about counting the leg? On Realbuto's takedown after losing the cradle, he hung on the leg for quite a while before the ref started his count. Someone was yelling at him about it, and I was wondering if anyone could tell who that was.

I'm pretty sure it was Cael.

It was me too, although I doubt you could hear me on Flo. Refs have been very inconsistent in starting the count. Often they don't count at all and sometimes they count without the arm swipe and then call stalling anyway.

While we're on the subject, did the "failure to return" from rules change? I thought that was a 5 count for stalling as well, but didn't see any calls despite numerous opportunties

It think it might have been Bo's father. I recall on Twitter one of the Flo guy's mentioning hearing him.

Not that it makes it right, but I get why they didn't start counting--it's not the typical position the rule was meant to remedy, where the guy's barely hanging on from behind while the other tries to escape. It was more like both guys were waiting for a stalemate call after Bo broke that cradle (which was one of at least 5 seriously wow moments in this match). So the refs didn't recognize it, but Bo's father (who I think coached Bo at one point growing up) did.

Here's an interpretation, straight from the book, though it does not cover all situations...

SITUATION 5: The defensive wrestler stands and controls the offensive
wrestler’s hands. The offensive wrestler attempts to bring the defensive
wrestler to the mat, but is unable to do so. QUESTION: Should the offensive
wrestler be called for stalling? RULING: The offensive wrestler shall not be
called for stalling in this situation because the offensive wrestler is aggressively
attempting to improve and return the defensive wrestler to the mat.

In the CSU Bakersfield match he play-by-play announcer stated Nolf went from 103 to 145 over his HS career. VJ may be going through a similar growth regardless of what weight he wrestled at in HS.

Interesting. That was not my understanding, but that has no bearing on anything, really. Still trying to pick up all of those rule nuances

The problem is it is the refs discretion as to whether the top man is making an effort to return his opponent to the mat. IMHO, most refs give the top man to much leeway in this position.

Agree, but at least with the calling of the other newer rules in place the action has been much better.

But.....when the new rules become old rules....we shall see.....

I originally thought Realbuto ran out of energy in the third period, but when I watched it again, I think he was perplexed and not knowing what to try next. He might have thought his next move might result in him being pinned.

Oh…I absolutely agree. My son said "he's lost" just after the period started…..meaning he didn't know how to attack. That clearly rattled him for the next two matches. He will rise again, I would not count him out.
