Nico's loss to Dance a blessing?

I was disappointed at Nico's loss earlier in the year to Dance. After that lost I wasn't sure of his chances of being a champ. Nico owns Dance and Nico outwrestled him the whole match but was too aggressive on his ride and gave up a reversal. I was just thinking that Nico's loss to Dance earlier in the year set him up nicely in terms of seeding. Nato would have been a bad match up on Nico. But the loss in the finals gave him an opponent he just beat at the big tens.

I don't think it really had anything to do with the seeding. Nico lost to Nato twice, so he wasn't going to be seeded ahead of Nato, and Nato was clearly the number 1 seed. If he beat Dance earlier in the year, he may have been seeded second instead of third, and wouldn't have faced Nato until the finals anyways.

Putting it another way, Dance's win over Nico resulted in Dance getting the 2 seed thus avoiding Nico having to take out both Gilman and Nato.

Nico did not face Nato in the finals. That lost to Dance allowed Dance to be seeded 2nd and Gilman 4th. If Nico beat Dance, then I think the seading would have been.

1 Nato
2 Nico
3 Gilman
4 Dance

Yeah I know they didn't meet in the final. I don't know if Gilman/Dance would have flipped, but I like Nico's changes against Gilman/Dance more then Nato. I don't think it would have made a difference between a 2nd and 3rd seeding to be honest, but I don't know for sure. All I'm saying is regardless of the loss or not he wouldn't have had to face Nato until the finals anyways, just like what could have happened on Saturday.

That's not correct - Nico would have been a 2 seed instead of 3 - both 2 and 3 seeds were on the other side of the bracket from Nato at #1 seed. Either way - he's in the final vs winner of Nato/Gilman

The important match was Nico's victory over Gilman at BIG. That got him 3rd seed instead of 4th.

Nico's loss to Dance proved at most marginal. His loss to Tomasello in the B10 finals locked the #2 or #3 seed. Nico has proved over and over and over again that he's upset proof -- he would've reached at least the national semis no matter what.

The only difference is that Dance would not have faced Terao. Maybe he would've gotten to the semis vs. Nico, or maybe he would've been upset by someone else. No way to know.

Actually, I'll take that back: Nico's loss to Dance might have been beneficial. If Nico had won, then the seeds likely would've been 1 Tomasello, 2 Nico, 3 Gilman, 4 Dance. Can't tell for sure, but Tomasello might have made the finals.

Please see above explanation about seedings and Dance ending up the 4 seed had Nico beaten him. That would have forced Nico to beat both Gilman and Nato instead of one of them taking out the other.

Dance loses to Nico and the seeding is

1. NATO
2. Mega
3. Gilman
4. Dance

Thus, the loss to Dance and win over Gilman helped seeding tremendously.

Dance is on record saying that he really struggles with tournament wrestling because of the weight cutting. VT fans weren't that surprised that he didn't do well this weekend,

hindsight.... if Nico would have beaten Dance, he may have lost to someone else... like Gilman. Mindset, like the next pitch to be thrown, can change based on a timeout, called strike, foul ball, previous batters results. Just saying, when one event changes in history, the rest is unknown (not 100% predictable)
