No. 3 MVB beats No. 1 Hawaii

So UCLA 1, PSU 2, Hawaii 3 seems about it after this weekend.

Good for our guys.

Weekend is not over for our guys, as we play IPFW tonight. But UCLA plays Hawai'i tonight as well.

UCLA only has one loss this season... to PSU, albeit at Rec Hall. If Hawai'i beats UCLA tonight, it will be interesting to see how the rankings end up for the top three.

Our only other loss was to Long Beach St, who is 10-2 and #4.

As an aside, the top two teams get a bye to the semifinals for the NCAA tournament. It's set up that there are 7 teams -- bottom two do a play in game, next 3 teams play in the quarterfinals along with the play-in winner, top 2 meet the 2 quarter final winners for the semifinals.

So, being one of the top two at the end of the year is huge. Obviously, that's not the poll rankings but the seeding though there's going to be some correspondence. PSU has played and defeated a lot of ranked teams this year: Hawai'i, UCLA, USC, Stanford, Pepperdine, UC Irvine, Ohio St. If we can win out on our schedule - it's much easier from this point forward - and the west coast teams beat each other up a bit, we could certainly end up top 2.

UCLA lost to Hawaii 3-1. The loss to Long Beach hurts PSU. UCLA's only losses are to PSU and Hawaii plus they have the recent win over PSU. Hawaii's only loss is to PSU. My guess is the top 3 will remain UH, UCLA, PSU.
