No fans at B10s

I'm a person that feels we need to really be opening up everything at this point! But! I really dont want fans at the Big Ten Championships! Want our kids healthy and ready to go for NCAA's

500 in BJC, plenty of space. Wouldn't it be nice if we would follow the science and figure out how many fans we could fit in and still be super safe. If your kid is wrestling, you move down to the edge, then move back so others can safely watch. What are there maybe 150 wrestlers whose family would attend. Cap it at 5 or 6 like a high school graduation. 750 fans.......in the whole BJC. It is laughable.

Solutions > fear.

I live in Maryland and coach track at the local high school. We have been told, that we cannot have spectators at the track meets. Per State executive order, outdoor facilities are capped at 250 people. My wife will not be able to watch our daughter compete in track for the last time.

We have also been told that spectators can stay outside the fence and watch the track meet. I guess the chain link fence stops the virus.

A reasonable compromise would be to allow the family members to attend as long as they have had a negative covid test within the last 48 hours.

It is both funny and frustrating at the same time.

According to the PA government a 2,000 seat arena can admit 200 people.

A 2,001 seat arena can only admit 100 people. 😳 Yep, read that again.

A 3,000 seat arena can only admit 150 people. 😳

If 200 people are allowed in a 2,000 seat arena why are only 150 people allowed in a larger 3,000 seat arena?

A 4,000 seat arena can only admit 200- the same as a 2,000 seat arena. Double the size but the same attendance limit.

Or prove they’ve been vaccinated? This is terrible to exclude family.

I could be wrong, but the vaccines don't mean you can't transmit covid, right? This is about protecting the wrestlers, but also the family members. The families wouldn't get anywhere near their sons. While not ideal, it's what has to be and certainly families are going to respect the need to protect their sons and team.

I get Harrisburg puts out one size fits all guidelines, it's what government does. My bigger issue is with PSU. They don't have the courage to put together a solution and propose it to the authorities.

Barron and Barbour are coasting cowards. This makes PSU look really bad.

It’s still a tricky problem tho. If you decide to admit fans what is the right number? You already have well over 200 ppl just in athletes, school staff, officials etc. With 140 athletes, which family members can visit? Numbers pile up pretty fast. Then consider if you allow fans of the 14 schools how many does each school get....10? Who are the winners of THAT lottery.

Even at 10% allowed 1600, the cries of unfairness will be rampant. If it were two teams in there....a proposal might be easy. 14 teams.... as Ben Askren tweeted last night after. Lewis’ knockout “WOAH”. Lol.

I would favor this though....go NBA Bubble thru NCAA. I want them wrestling. I don’t want another last year where I saw absolutely nothing.

I think you should at least allow family of the wrestlers. If you did 5 per wrestler that’s an even 700 and I think should cover most people that they’d want there especially if you allow guys to give some/all of their allotments to other guys if one guy’s family can’t make it or doesn’t use all 5.

How hard is it to say 2 spectators per athlete? 14 teams, 10 guys per weight class...280 people. You could double it to 4 per athlete and get to 560 people. rope off the lower level seats to keep fans away from athletes and roll with it. It's not rocket science.

The athletes, coaches and staff are on the floor. Say 150 wrestlers, 5 family members ( family only), 750 total. Plus, you don't get to camp in your seats, you move down to the front, watch your son, then move further to the back. You don't need 6 feet between each person, only 6 feet between each family cluster. 150 groups of 5 spread over the lower bowl at BJC, plenty of room.

Same covid protocol as if you were going to work.....temp check for each session. Must wear mask. We ask visitors to fill out a form prior to arrival certifying they have not been in contact....more for contact tracing purposes.

This is pathetically easy.

Sounds good, except the moving seats part. The volleyball matches are played now without teams switching sides between sets to decrease transmission risk. If you have people changing seats all over, that is higher risk of spread than staying in their own socially distanced seat. It’s real life, some people will get better seats- it’s always that way.

The crowd for the Super Bowl over two weeks a go in Tampa was at 50%. The related activities around Tampa were limited but still people participated. i haven't herd a peep about Covid19 related to the event.
The power hungry politicians have us so conditioned. All they have to do is say were following the science and we fall in line like mindless fools. The number 2022 is now popping up in all the so called experts plans for the future.

It’s all politics. Keeping their thumb on the populace is governments favorite past time. It isn’t a safety issue any longer. Most schools had partial attendance all football season and I don’t recall mass spreading occurring at those games. Yea they are outside but still the BJC is monstrous and could certainly handle a family only crowd.

How would you do that? Have PA legislators decide the rules for Iowa and Iowa legislators decide the rules for PA? Your solution makes absolutely no sense. Just saying.
Simple solution. NoVa Lion our legislators were never given the opportunity to decide on reopening our economy. We just need a new Governor.

Not quite true. If the PA legislature wasn't in session for the past year, then I want my taxes refunded.

Those cowards deferred to the courts -- and waited for private citizens to file the lawsuits. Despite the plainly obvious constitionality question. (The PA Constitution is very exact about emergencies, to the point of specifying the years of floods.)

"We need a new" does not stop at the Governor's Mansion. We're getting a new governor soon anyway due to term limits. The legislative cowards ... we'll return them to office because that's what PA voters do.

PA must be vastly different than Iowa when it comes to following the rules. Apparently none of you have seen the wrestlers run into the stands. Making the rules is easy, getting everyone to follow them is another story altogether.
I'm just hopeful there is a tournament, the more things you do to increase the odds of completing the season the better imo.

Exactly right, people need to stop being so selfish and be happy there is wrestling.

Just happy there's wrestling. And I can understand the feelings of parents that miss out on seeing their sons compete at this year's tournament. There will be next year for most, as I suspect many seniors will return, but that rings hollow at this moment.

At the risk of playing what-if, this event with more fans has a higher chance of a spread, and I'd hate to see even one wrestler miss the opportunity to wrestle at NCAA's.
