At first glance, JoMo moving to the heart of SEC country seemed unusual. Then I thought about it a little bit and came up with the following list of northerners who became SEC head coaches.
Nick Saban - from Ohio, Michigan State head coach who then went to LSU and eventually Bama.
Urban Meyer - from Ohio, coached a lot different places including Notre Dame; head coach at Utah and then went to FL.
Gerry DiNardo - from NYC, Notre Dame grad (all american), HC at Vandy then LSU
Les Miles - Michigan grad; HC at OK State and then LSU
George O'Leary - from NYC, New Hampshire grad, coached many places then HC at GA Tech.
James Franklin - from PA; coached many different places and then became HC at Vandy
I could have included Greg Schiano, but he wasn't head coach at Tenn very long.
Any others???
