Actually, Obama did back out of a debate; against Missus Clinton in the 2008 North Carolina primary, to have been moderated by Katie Couric. That was shortly after Obama bombed in that pre-Pennsylvania primary ABC debate which had been hosted by Charlie Gibson and George Stephanopoulos. Barack became afraid of Nurse Ratched, and I could understand why.
