FWIW...Some time ago, also, I ran across a study that linked womens make-up to thyroid disease. To this day, I have never met a male hypothyroid patient.

I've got a friend who swears that

near and far sightedness is a short term condition caused by body growth but that we, basically, tell the eye to continue the condition by correcting it with glasses rather than letting the body "heal" itself. I have no opinion on it but wonder. The same can be said to be true of chemical imbalances.

Thyroid conditions are higher in women because they tend to be auto-immune in nature. Women overall have stronger/more active immune symstems and pretty much across the board have higher incidence of all auto-immune disease (of course, as noted, men can also develop such diseases, just at lower rates). Linking thyroid disease to makeup seems exceeding specious.
