My wife and I, along with a few other couples are looking to visit Nashville sometime this summer. I am in need of advice and info on where to stay, eat, and drink. We would like to stay somewhere in walking distance of good night life restaurants and taverns.

Any and all info is greatly appreciated!

I like the Marriott Courtyard on 4th. Right up the street from The Ryman and close to all the action on Broad and Second. High end dining...Husk. Something fun and casual, The sSilly Goose.

Staying near Broadway will put you in the touristy parts of town. Nothing wrong with this, and it will make for the Nashville experience that people talk about. If you stay a little west of the downtown area in midtown, you’ll still be close to a bunch of bars, but this is more of the local scene. I’ve always stayed out of the town and Ubered with no issues.

2 restuaraunt recomendations. For breakfast, Bisquit Love. It’s one of the best places I’ve been for breakfast. Go early or you’ll wait in line. I’ve been there 15 minutes before they open and there’s been 20 people ahead of me in line. Also, Hattie B’s hot chicken. If you go to Nashville, you have to get some hot chicken!

My wife and I love Nashville! Others may have more experience and better recommendations, but i’ll Give it a shot.

Most of the food on Broadway is crappy. I highly recommend a place called The Southern, which isn’t that far away. They have an amazing breakfast/brunch. Depending on how much you want to spend time on Broadway clubs listening to live music, there are a few hotels within walking distance. I would also highly recommend considering the Gaylord Opryland hotel, where you can see a show at the current version of the Grand Ole Opry. It’s pretty far from Broadway, so if you plan on partying on Broadway then you should look for something near there. Check out trip advisor for food recommendations, there are plenty of good options, but I can’t say that there is one central place to find everything within walking distance.

We stayed at Hotel Indigo and thought well of it. Short walk to Broadway, Ryman, etc. Had an excellent meal at Skull's Rainbow Room in Printers Alley. Hit as many honky tonks as you can.

I didn't find much to do in Nashville during the day, but the nightlife was great! The Jack Daniels distillery is only 90 minutes away, and puts on a great tour. Hit the Loveless Cafe for Breakfast.

Other than that, I can only recommend you go to Memphis instead, more to see during the day. A food scene that is second only to New Orleans. Lots more local craft beer. Beale Street at night (admittedly the nightlife is better in Nashville). And the best part... much less emphasis on country "music".

you have to go to the Whiskey Bend Saloon!! I dont know anything about the food, but Paul Pace plays there and puts on one heck of a show!!! Tell him I sent you!!
Paul plays many of his own songs, provided he can remember the words!! Just yell 'Lower' and he will start laughing!!

I would also recommend seeing the Don Kelly band at Roberts Western World. It's the honky tonk scene in a nutshell. They usually have an amazing guitarist.

I moved away from Nashville 13 years ago and used to have many recommendations but it’s my understanding that much has changed in that my recommendations are practically obsolete. But checkout the Brewhouse Nashville and order up some Bushwhackers.

I have no problem dropping names. Will it get my ass kicked? Just joking.

There's a place across the street from Opryland called the Nashviller or something like that plays legit old school country. Meaning 30s and 40s

I didn’t know that... I’ll have to check it out next time I’m there.

Check out Yazoo brewery one of my favorites. The Gaylord opry hotel is an interesting place to see even if you don't stay there. Hot chicken is a must if you like spicy food at all I had it at Boltons and it was wonderful, my brother in law lives in nashville and says hattie b's is overrated the most well know hot chicken in Nashville. Broadway is overrated to me, lots of bars and things to do but very expensive and usually lots of long lines and high covers to get in, although several places don't have covers if you do your research first.

Monell's for Breakfast (family style all you can eat...ridiculously good)
2nd the rec on Husk
Urban Grub (12 South Area)
Lockeland Table (East Nashville)
Whiskey Kitchen
Mockingbird
Clyde's on Church is a fun place
2nd the Hot Chicken Rec for Hattie B's

Nashville Marriott at Vanderbilt. I was there this past August, great hotel and they drop you off where all the bars are at.

I'm not a country fan--that said, the Opry is a must. If you don't like an act there's another one in 10 min. Decent shopping in the mall across the street including some outlets.

Interesting...a friend was recently in Memphis and said there’s not much of anything to do there except Beale St. So, what’s there to do in Memphis during the day?

Graceland, national civil rights museum, Gibson factory, the Peabody ducks. The downtown area was nice for walking around and shopping. The food is a huge attraction, there are so many great places you couldn’t hit them all in a weekend... and there are a couple nice breweries such as ghost river and wiseacre. You can easily duck into Arkansas and Mississippi if you’ve never been. We went down near Ole Miss to get some crawfish... it was a blast.

When we were there, they had the Tennessee brewery (built in 1890) set up as a showcase of local craft beer. Meanwhile an aerial show was taking place over the Mississippi River. It was a nice way to spend an afternoon.

We never felt unsafe, even at night. The biggest downside was that Beale was a bit of a letdown. It’s a mere fraction of bourbon St. But those Dyer’s burgers were amazing.

May is a good time to explore Memphis while they celebrate “Memphis in May”. It’s an international festival where each week in May carries a different theme. First weekend is the music festival, 2nd I believe is cultural, 3rd is art or some boring shit and the last week (I think) is food week.

I'd also note the zoo, for those who like animals. They have giant pandas too. Memphis did lose the Memphis Belle a few years ago though--I'm looking forward to seeing it at the Air Force Museum in May as the restoration is almost complete.

Thanks for the suggestions (Jim and kgilbert too) Never been there and it's one of those places (like St Louis, for example) that seems to have a bad reputation (don't wander off Beale St, for example) that normally I would never venture too.

I never really had any desire to go to Nashville either until people kept telling me over the past couple of years..."oh, you need to go to Nashville, the place is great".

No problem. If you really consider going, stop back for some recommendations on food. That is the highlight of the trip!

I really want with minimal expectations, and had a fantastic weekend.

New Orleans has a bad crime reputation. But Mrs. KG and I love it. We are careful not to stay out too late, though.

Crime rate in Nemohis is 100 times worse than Nashville.stop in Tootsie's Orchid Lounge, right around the corner from Ryman. All country stars got their start there.

I’ve never been to Nemohis, but I wouldn’t miss out on amazing experience because of some statistic. It’s amazing how one can visit all these allegedly terrible places and not have any issues if they don’t do stupid things.

But since the topic of this thread has been on Memphis and Nashville, the crime rate in Nashville is really bad too, and Memphis isn’t even twice as bad (closer to 1.5x), let alone 100x. Definitely worth the ‘risk’ for better food, better sites to see, and less country music.
