Looking for an honest assessment. I have a strong bias for sure, but everytime a hammer goes to Iowa or tOSU, I wonder if they have no sense of history. The evidence is right there for all to see.

PS - Assume our studs went to Rutgers :)

I'm not sure Kem would have achieved his goals unless he wasn't hurt.. Would Psu have been able to minimize how torn up he was???
Warner, I think he finished better than he should have so squeezing that little bit more out of him would have been tough.
I have a hard time thinking Marinelli wasn't the best wrestler in his class for several years and mentally wasn't ready. So I think he would have gotten 1 title for the boys in blue.
Wrestling not to lose compared to being free especially on that stage is a major difference.

I know I’ll get laid out for this, but I’m a firm believer Kem and Bull would have won during the Covid cancellation year.

The other years they lost in the tournament. I’d assume those PSU guys they lost to would be on another team in this hypothetical? Kem would have still lost to star, and Warner would have still lost to Dean. So my answer would be two.

Marinelli zero.

Kemerer 1 or 2 -- if he had gone 165 after Cenzo. His matches with Griffith and O'Toole would've been fun.

Warner ... maybe he gets by Ford Focus in the 2021 quarters instead of losing 3-2? After that he would've had an undersized Amine, then Bonaccorsi. Not a given but doable.

Sounds like a typical Hawkeye response. The Bull and Kem never won a title wearing black but that one single time at band camp when they didn't have to wrestle to win - that's the one time I know they would have won.

Add Bo Jordan to this list. and I think he wins 3 titles at PSU
Doubt it.

I have to agree with this, although I would add that it is not exclusive to Hawk responses.

The also-rans ALWAYS win the hypothetical despite results that indicate otherwise.

We are not immune to it at PSU. A lot of us swore that DT was going to get him the next match. Although I think MOST of us started to doubt after match #3.

I don’t know anything, I thought they were both wrestling very well at the end of the year. Those are my assumptions, I’m sticking with em.

Nothing wrong with sticking with em. No matter the facts, nor the obvious that is what Hawk fandom does.

Stevenson was going to be an undefeated 4xer...
Penn State screws a lot of kids from opposing schools out of their dreams.

Marinelli was a 4x Big Ten Champ. It’s hard for me to believe that he couldn’t have won an NCAA title or two with, I’m sorry, better coaching.

I didn’t think VJ would beat IMAR either time. But he did. Both times.

DeSanto owned RBY AND was a year ahead of him. But RBY was coached to make adjustments and the roles were reversed.

Not sure about the rest of them, but I think Marinelli and DeSanto would have both won titles at PSU. Maybe 4 between them.

And a lot of us think RBY, NLee, Joseph, Hall and Brooks would have brought home 6 titles (five individual and one team) that year at NCAAs.

Penn State screwed Nico, the Altons, Zain, Jason, Cenzo, Hall, Howard, and countless others from attending their Dream School.

You notice how many Hawkeyes look like they are MASH 4077 refugees by mid Feb and maybe Kem was hurt because he was at Iowa?

Personally, I think Marinelli was overrated. Yes, was able to turn Cenzo's inside trip against him, but always seemed to underperform in March. Then again, I might just be sick of the obligatory Mariah shots. You could've made a drinking game out of them.

I was with you on this. I sometimes think IMar let a bit of machismo affect the way he wrestled those matches and decided to try and beat VJ at his own upper body inside trip game. I thought maybe the matches would have gone differently if he went with more leg attacks. You never know though with how great VJ hips were/are. I am glad those matches turned out the way that they did.

yea iowa fans thought the bull would win 4 LOL

As much as I appreciate trolling the Hawkeye visitors, can we get back to serious questions? Like, can Batman really beat Superman? How many angels can dance on the head of a pin?

Could’ve?

IF you did there is a good chance you are just coming off of your hang over now..

marinelli was a really bad match up for joseph. was able to match his power. and joseph didn't present the kind of match up problems for marinelli that other top guys like Lewis, Griffith, Wick, etc... posed. marinelli finished cleanly on joseph and that was the difference.
