Might as well get this out there early this week. After the bye, I'm sure some are itching to pick this one.
This game is really simple: Penn State's rushing offense and DL vs Michigan's rushing offense and DL
Just like NW, the team that can establish a consistent running game to allow offensive balance will win the game. Michigan's Jake Ruddock is a solid qb, but in long down and distance situations, I love the PSU DL and Shoop's blitz packages (especially late in the game). HOWEVER, if UM can consistently run the ball and create 3rd and manageable, it'll be tough for the PSU defense to pin its ears back and go after the Wolverine QB.
On the other side, if Barkley can run then it will force Michigan to adjust to defend that. I can almost guarantee that Michigan is coming into this game planning on stopping the run with their front 4 and some LB help. If the PSU running game can force the UM LB's to pay attention and even creep a safety up, the play-action passing attack should open up. Doesn't have to be bombs down the field, but just enough to keep them off balance.
Ball control will be critical in this game, but when we are forced to punt, it has to be good. Last year's game in Ann Arbor was a disaster punting. PSU has to be flawless on special teams.
1 other point I want to make is CJF did pretty darn well coming off a bye week and playing a big game at home. I'll predict another close one and have faith in the boys. Looking for 7-0 at home this season
