Just to respond to your signature, yes, Penn State has such a history of choking in big matches, like those four mid-March tournaments from 2011 to 2014...
Pirate, my post was intended as a warning to those B&W posters who rely upon their being no records of their wrong-doing. This is partially no longer the case.
But it your responding to my signature then you should reread it. I said "big duals" not big matches. Their 3-7-1 dual record against Minny, Iowa, and Okie St in the last five years only supports my sig.

My preference is the last five years of 4-1-0 in national championships.
All of those dual meet wins, and yet very little hardware to show for it. Where do you think your coach has gone wrong?

It's obvious that SOMETHING has to change, in order to win a championship. The Gophs struggle on bottom consistently. They wait too long to attack consistently. Most of all, they just flat-out don't score enough points (both match and tournament-wise).
Until there is a mindset change, that neutering wrestlers of their offense as soon as they get on campus isn't the way to approach every wrestler, the Gophers will be good, but never great. JRob will continue to collect checks and run his prized-possession camps. And Gopher fans will continue to piss and moan about duals meaning more than individual tournaments because they can't win it with 2-1 match scores by 6 guys. The guy thinks defense wins championships for pete's sake.

One of the dumber things you've posted on this board, though there are a lot of entries for that prize. Rivals.com could care less what you think, or what you may have mentioned. And the archive wasn't expanded to 14 pages (in terms of that being a limit).
I'm sure that has folks on this board shuddering in fear. smh.
My apologies...although I thought for sure it said "big matches" at the time I commented, and you changed it in response to my comment.
That said, I hardly think anybody is calling me a fan of Penn State, or any other school with a wrestling program. Just calling a spade a spade.

The USA forum goes back several years. If you ever want a good laugh, search out Jammens posts and note how many times he has been completely wrong about something.
CD, you know that V and I have long held that Minny overtrains and we disagree with their pummel-them-to-death coaching. That said, your spanking was strictly metaphorical.
Do you think that their over-training is what's leading to a lack of offense/scoring? I always saw it as more of a coaching philosophy, but that theory also makes sense.
Duster while I respect and Understand your stance. I think you are attempting to fit everyone into a cookie cutter stereotype. I think everyone envisions Tony Nelson, Storely against the top 174's and Dustin after his freshman year and forget about the Ness's, Dardanes, Sanders, Steinhaus, Schiller, etc. MN encourages strong positioning, heavy hands, great counter offense, but they also have offense at their disposal. Penn state has been blessed with some offensive juggernauts, and the staff does encourage that, but it's not like every person in the room is throwing up 20 shots a match. It is all about perception. Fanbases focus on their highlights and draw attention to opponent's low points and they sell that as the truth and whole story. There is always the middle ground where the truth typically is. Penn State is leading the race, but it doesn't mean others aren't going to cross the finish line. Don't let ur distain for Jammen cloud ur wrestling knowledge.
Grap, if you and other fans are content with the current trends in Gopher wrestling, I can't sway your opinion. I can only speak for myself and others I have had this conversation with in-person. They won't magically rise to power again without a change of mindset/leadership, in my opinion. I feel that they aren't keeping up with the Jones's (OhSt, PSU, etc.).
I'm not saying I won't cheer for a MN wrestler. I'm saying that it's hard to look at the program that hasn't really changed in 10 years and not wonder, "What if...?"

In the past 5 year window PSU is clearly more successful and I would give Ohio State a nod as well due to the championship(why bring up the years they enderachieved? Am I right?), but other than that the only school's on Minnesota's radar are Iowa, Ok state and Cornell. Minnesota was right in contention and one of the few to truly push penn state (remember the t shirts?). You can write off Minnesota Wrestling if you choose and ignore all common sense, that's fine. Offensive juggernauts are great, but you can't make somebody something they are not. You can't tell Danny Z to go out and put on a David Taylor like clinic, when he is not David Taylor

Would you rather see JRob take a 3yr extension, or would you rather they: 1. Promoted Eggum and/or Becker and brought in another former Gopher to assist? OR 2. Did a nation-wide search for the best candidate to take over as Head Coach?
Sort of an exercise in futility since he already got the extension.

You're right they don't. PSU's placing against Minnesota at Big Tens and NCAAs over the past 5 years: 9-1. If you count the Scuffle, 13-1.
