This will be an interesting and difficult issue that is set for a vote on Tuesday. It would require a 60 % passage rate for Constitutional initiatives in the future instead of the current over 50% standard. The practical issue is that it is designed to make it harder for a November pro-abortion ballot issue to pass. Ohio passed a law limiting abortion after 6 weeks, which I oppose. I favor a 12 week limit on abortion. However, due to a court case enjoining the 2019 law, the limit on abortion is now 22 weeks. The November ballot issue is an extreme pro-abortion proposal that enshrines the right to abortion in the state constitution and outlaws anything that "indirectly" (an extremely broad term) impinges on that right before the baby becomes viable outside of the womb, which is generally 23-24 weeks.

The pro-lifers can be very strident and impervious to the effects of their positions on many other issues and elections. I will probably vote for issue no. 1, keeping the over 50% requirement for Ohio constitutional amendments. If the November issue passes, and it may very well, then I would later support a new constitutional amendment stripping if of its extreme features.
