Ohio St offensive coordinator to become new Tulsa HC

Kevin Wilson - former HC at Indiana. This was expected and opens the door for Hartline as their OC - as previously discussed on this board a couple of weeks ago.
Probably a good thing for Ohio St. Wasn't Wilson the guy who was canned for being abusive to his players? Hartline may not have his experience but is probably much more popular with the players.

Yes, Wilson's the same guy and was friends with Urban Meyer which is why he was hired. He had Indiana really starting to improve during his time there and is a very good HC but obviously is carrying around some baggage because of the abuse you mentioned

As long as you win baby. It was amazing to me that within months of being fired by Indiana for player abuse Urbs was able to hire him with no questions asked at OSU. Much like Saban at Bama.

Well they had a wife beater coach that they had let go right before that so they cleared abusive coach space to add their new OC.

The question is if Ohio St prefers coaches with a history of abuse or if that was more of an urban myer thing?

Waasn't Hartline a finalist for the Cincy job?

He was but said he was staying at OSU. To be quite honest, not sure he's ready for a HC position - or maybe even as an OC - yet. And I think he realizes that. He's definitely popular with the recruits and players but managing a program and calling plays is a whole different scenario

If Ohio State has an open OC job and Hartline doesn't get it then that is a pretty strong message to Hartline that he has to leave to move up. I think they move Hartline up to OC, otherwise he may be gone too.

Every Buckeye fan loves Hartline and would love to see him at OSU forever but just because he's a tremendous recruiter and position coach doesn't qualify him for OC. OSU tried that with lifetime DB coach Kerry Coombs - making him DC - who has decades of experience in both the NFL and CF and that was a massive failure.. Besides, I read that OSU is paying Hartline right around $1 million a year.

There's a thread on OSU's Eleven Warriors about who they want to replace Wilson and names like Scott Frost, Dan Mullen, Justin Frye and Joe Morehead who is the current HC at Akron and I believe a former OC at PSU - correct me if I'm wrong. Some of those names are probably unrealistic. And keep in mind, this is a fanbase that loves Hartline

Won't be Hartline. He's repeatedly said he doesn't have any desire to be an OC. Says he doesn't have the experience or skillset to run an entire offense. Plus, I think OSU learned their lesson about hiring a very good position coach as coordinator with the Kerry Coombs debacle. Coombs was a fantastic position coach but was way out of his league as DC. Expect OL coach Justin Frye to fill the role temporarily and then the Buckeyes bring in someone new.

He doesn't want to be an OC. He's said so many times. He turned Marcus Freeman down for the OC job at ND.

Maybe not right now but I have the feeling that will change over time. I believe this is only his 4th or 5th year as a position coach.

Over time sure. He himself has said he'll " never say never". But even in the statement he released the other day he said his heart lies at OSU and he has no plans to leave anytime soon. It's not about the money for him. He made a small fortune during his NFL career and invested it wisely. He has a couple successful businesses in the Columbus area. He and his wife are both from the area ( Hartline is from the Canton area but has lived in Columbus since his OSU playing days) His children attend school in the area. He says he loves working with the WRs because he is still young enough and in good enough shape that he can run with the guys. He can SHOW them what he's teaching instead of TELLING them what to do. One of the reasons guys want to play for him.
