Clearly, Friday night was the turning point of the tournament. More specifically though, it was Nolf's beat down of M Jordan that turned the event. It wasn't just that we took the lead for the 1st time, the way he won was a shot across their bow ... this isn't the Big Ten Tournament anymore.

I had a seat for the semi finals next to, and behind, Buckeye fans ... nice guys. After McKenna lost to Meredith I heard one of them say "we're going to blow this"; after Nolf's match they all agreed. The mood reminded me of how the Japanese must have felt after Midway.

...they really imploded during Saturday mornings' wrestlebacks...
...with the opportunity to salt the Championship away they just went down one after another ... :)

It was glorious, not so dissimilar to the dual in terms of ebb flow and assumed 'sure things' not delivering. In contrast, despite the odds our side delivered at a time when all seemed bleak. Cael is simply better than any other coach in the country and it was on display this year more than others. We lost a sure finalist OSU gained one and it still wasn't enough. Bo summed it up with the quote of the year ''It's what we do!"

Simply magnificent.

Cracks in the dam when Hayes and Moore lost in the quarters. Dam burst wide open when Lee stuck Nato.

Just a different perspective. Other than Moore, Ohio State wrestled a great tournament. Hell they scored 130 plus points. The year they won they barely topped 100.
I understand they feel as though they left a few points out there. However, when you score 30 points more than your previous high the expectations for more is basically wishful thinking.
Ohio State's Waterloo has a whole lot more to do with Penn State is better than Ohio State. Penn State had a few slips. Nevillis could have finished third and it isn't a stretch to think Shakur could have been in the finals.
Ohio State as a team wrestled great, but as long as Penn State wrestled a solid tournament Ohio State simply was not going to win this tournament.

The 1st 3 rounds at nationals are not much different than Bigs. You're going to face some tough outs, but top-5 wrestlers will usually prevail. That's where the Buckeyes built their lead, much like they did at Bigs.

Once you reach the semis though, now you're facing other top-5 wrestlers. This is when 'good' is not always enough, you sometimes need to be great.

Regarding Rasheed:
1. He lost by 1 point to the guy that finished #1 in the tournament, and really had the opportunity to win that match
2. He lost to the guy that was seeded #1 in the tournament. Really wasn't in that match though

His 2 losses were not that bad. Rasheed adding 10 pounds walking around good weight and picking up better chain wrestling, will make him a beast. I also hope Cessar stays, as these guys will certainly help each other out.

I did not say, nor did I mean to imply Rasheed wrestled a bad tournament. I agree he could have, possibly should have won his QF match with the Champ. Since he was winning most of the match, it is rather easy to picture him as the 6th Lion in the finals. The point I was making is while some Bucknut and Hawkeye fans lament the points Ohio State left unscored, Penn State has some unscored points also.

I would point to Saturday morning as a turning point for them, the back to back losses by the Jordans. OSU started out hot, with a pin and then 2 toss up wins. We had some guys that helped us out in this tournament like Conel, but Michigan really aided us. Pantaleo and Amine helped stop a Buckeye momentum surge that could have led into Saturday night.

Gotta say that I saw a good number of matches with Tosu wrestlers and they really carried themselves well, even as a few setbacks came. I put them ahead of most B1G programs in this regard. This is not to say a good number of other guys out there don’t do the same.

People make it sound like they lost it as they went along. Not really. It’s just what happens when mid-seeded guys hit the quarters.

The turning point so to speak was slow and gradual. After Thursday tOSU was a huge favorite, and after the Friday AM session tOSU was still a solid favorite but we gained ground. We gained even more after the semis Friday night but tOSU still ahead but a way for us to win was there. Saturday AM started off badly for us but got better as the session went on and by the end of the session we were a slight favorite with the result of the final at 184 deciding the team champ and we all know how that ended.

IMHO, Martin knew he couldn't beat Bo in a 7 minute match so went for the big move early hoping for a repeat of the finals in 2016 at MSG. I felt the same way about 165. IMar won BIGs by stalling on top and winning on a riding time point, which said to me he couldn't beat Cenzo straight up so he went for the big throw early against Cenzo and it didn't work. Game over. :D

match-ups are tricky.... I’m a huge Rasheed fan, but a one point loss doesn’t necessarily translate to he would have made the finals

Joseph and White went to SV with Cenzo prevailing.... White didn’t AA once he dropped to consi’s

100% agree. I was trying to add a bit of color commentary to your thread. We'll certainly need our 197 in the finals next year, as I see on HR, that Iowa has a straight path to 165 points, even though they have averaged 93.5 over the last 10 years with a high of 134.5 in 2010 (with McDonough, Dennis, Marion, Metcalf, Morningstar, Borschel + in that lineup). 2019 Iowa is 30+ points better than the 2010 version.

I was just surprised to see Rasheed do well, and only losing to the Champion by 1, and the #1 seed.

Agree. Just pointing out that Rasheed was very competitive out there, and by next year, will have tons of room to improve. To think, that we started the season with Cutch ranked #4 going to Rasheed winning the Southern S, to Cessar beating Moore to really clinch the dual, to Rasheed (started the season #3 on the depth chart) placing #5 nationally. That is a wild ride, and starts showing the depth that the team is building, while slowing increasing the hammers from 1-2 to 5-6 (and 8-10 in a few years). Great time to be a PSU wrestling fan
