unwatchable. They will make the playoffs and I am still convinced they will be in the World Series, but I have better things to do with my time than watch this catastrophe.

I just turned it off. If they lose, that's six in a row to one of the worst teams in baseball. 21-32 in the Central. Cardinal series are now meaningless, unless they need to win to keep home field in WC. Unlike you, I'm not convinced they can. Cubs aren't playing well either, but backing into this is not a good thing. If you think about it, the Pirates no longer have an impressive, lights out starter. Can't go very far in the playoffs like that. As an aside, I'm getting a little tired of the pre-game dugout shenanigans they're showing before every damn game. Pretty unprofessional if you ask me.

Can't disagree. Sometimes they look so damn good and then they crap the bed. Maybe that's true for all teams. Regardless, there is no excuse for this performance in Milwaukee.

I have jumped off the band wagon. The 2015 Pirates are done. The pitching has collapsed. The fact that management is still using Locke & Morton is extremely disappointing.

Well, statistically at least those two are typical 4/5 starters. What exacerbates their weaknesses is the fact that Cole and Liriano have become not much more than average pitchers in the second half. Throw into it the horrible defense, etc and this is what you get. Things can change, but I see a horrid September for this team. Again, when you can't win within your division you have problems.

They are done unless they dominate the series with the Cards. If the lose 2 of 3 we can move on to football...........

I'm moving onto football. I have no confidence that this team can win a one game playoff. Hell, with so many more games against the Reds, Brewers, Cards, and Cubs, there's a good chance they are passed by the Cubs and Giants. Pitching kept them in every game for the first half of the season. Now it's a huge liability at the time it's needed most. It makes me sick.

You may be right but I think they'll turn it around. We'll see.

Last night, later in the contest, Root Sports showed a graphic with the pitching matchups for the Cardinals series.

No Wainwright, no Wacha ... but each Cardinals pitcher had a record well over .500 and every ERA was below 3.0.

It ain't gonna be pretty this weekend. Thank God the Nits play Saturday afternoon.

I said it yesterday, how can anyone take them serious?

Be honest, contending teams made themselves better at the deadline, this team really didn't.

Why? Don't give up so easily
Most of the members of this board give up very quickly. I'd say you don't want 90% of them in your foxhole. Come back during any PSU game. First quarter, run gets stuffed = season is over. Most of these guys bailing on the Pirates will be back singing their praises when they start winning again. Side note: I'm a Brewers fan but I would trade season results with the Pirates in a heartbeat despite what happened in the latest series.

Woodpecker. Some of us are bandwagon fans. I personally make no apology for that. Jumping off the bandwagon (which I personally have not done) is a bit different than going to war, but I understand your point.

Not getting an arm for the rotation at the deadline is looming large...
Mike Leake was out there....and cheap. That should have been a no-brainer.

That said, Happ has given them much more than I thought he was capable of (which was essentially nothing). Would be a real nice bonus if he could put together another 3-4 legit starts.....beginning tonight.

Either way.....the Buccos are going to sweep the Cards this weekend to get back in the hunt!!!!!

The Pirates fate is to limp into a Wild Card game in Chicago. Arrieta vs. Cole. The Pirates have little chance of winning that game. Just like last year they will be one-game and done in the playoffs.

Hurdle worries too much about resting players. Last night McCutchen and Kang were on the bench. These guys make tens of millions of dollars per year and have all winter to rest up. The best players should play every day. No rest days.

Burnett should be pitching now. He is retiring at the end of the season. Shoot up his arm with cortisone and novocain and get his butt out there. He has 40 years to recover. Sandy Koufax did this every week for years. Treating Burnett like a 25-year old with a long future pitching is ridiculous.

Morton pitches tomorrow, so that makes your prediction nearly impossible. I think we can take 2 of 3, but that would still keep us 5 back in the loss column. We needed to take 2 from the Brewers and we totally choked. I have no doubt we will make the playoffs, but I am not going to watch a single pitch of this series. Getting swept by a team 20 games under .500 does not justify my time commitment.

I'm not worried about the Cubs. In the last 10 games, while we've been going 5-5, they were going 4-6. We will play the Wild Card game at home.

The Buccos are going to score 20+ runs this weekend against that vaunted St L pitching staff.

Happ is going to keep them in the game tonight, Charlie is going to have his "once every third start" good game, and Cole is going to win #16 on Sunday (after choking out Alverez following his 1st inning error).

So it shall be. :)

Then, on Monday, Worley is going to go all "Tonya Harding" on Locke's knee, and step in to lead the Buccos to a victory over the Reds.

I don't know how it will turn out 3-4 weeks from now, but as of a couple days ago only one pitcher that changed hands at the deadline had a lower ERA since the trade than Happ. David Price I believe.

There is very little. They're more likely to get swept than take 2/3. Mediocre starting pitching and poor fundamentals were bound to catch up with this team sooner or later. Add to that, they haven't won much in this division for two years. Like you, I'm not planning on even tuning in tonight.

I believed the bucs could catch the cards until these last few days. Hopefully their starting pitching can get turned around and they can get hot, but it doesn't look good. The wildcard isn't bad, but the bigger issue is that the buccos really don't have an ace. They aren't going to get 8 to 9 innings of no run ball from anyone. Hopefully, in the wildcard game, Arrieta can't pitch or is pitching on short notice because the Cubs need a win toward the end of the season, and the bucs can get 6-7 innings of 1-2 run ball from Cole and then hand it over to the bullpen. Not likely anyone will challenge the cubs enough to prohibit them from setting up Arrieta to pitch the wildcard, but you never know. Cole appears to be 1-2 years away from being a true ace.

This past week has been discouraging, but I will continue to believe that we are just going through a rough spot, like all teams, even the Cards, have done this season. We still have the 3rd best record in baseball and as I said previously, the Cubs had a chance to pick up ground as we went 5-5, but they went 4-6. I'm sure their fans are unhappy as well. We'll be in the playoffs and that's a whole new season. I won't watch this series, but I'll be back in full TV mode for the playoffs, and maybe sooner.

After he's finished with Locke......Worley is going to sneak into the Cub clubhouse and go all "Tonya Harding" on Arietta's knee as well.

This will forever ensure Worley's place among the all-time Bucco Heroes.

If that happens Ill definitely change my tune regarding Worley.

Five weeks from now the Pirates season will be over and all the talk will be about how Jameson Taillon, Tyler Glasnow, Josh Bell, and Cole Tucker are going to waltz in next year and right the ship. The Pirates are all about the future not the present.

When the Bus are bad they stink out the joint, but when they're good, they're pretty damn good. I keep coming back to the fact that the season is coming to an end and they still have the 3rd best record in baseball. This is a team that can do damage in the playoffs and I say they will. Time, as always, will tell.

A bit harsh. Think of from where this organization came and where they are now. Going out and emptying the farm system for a player or two is not the way to go, nor is it a guarantee that doing that is going to get you where you want to go (see Oakland A's last year). Whatever happens this year, I won't blame Neal. And the Cards have been phenomenal. All that said, there is just no excuse for the way they've played within the Division. It's a disgrace, and that is on the players in my view. Apparently laughing and goofing around in the dugout is more important than focusing on the task at hand.

Everybody will feel better on Monday.....after they complete the sweep of the Cardinals
