We have a general contractor enclosing our carport. It will eventually be an entertainment room with a lot of glass. It's been three weeks after permitting and the following has happened:

First day: cracked my driveway due to weight of the subcontractor's truck hauling cement slab and dirt away.
Second day: put a hole in the carport ceiling (will be replaced but it exposed my attic) with a bobcat
Last Friday: severs the house sewage line

Normal, par for the course kind of stuff? Cursed project? Or, tremendous incompetence?

What say ye?

I'm pretty compulsive about not letting contractors bring their heavy trucks onto my driveway. I've heard numerous bad reports like yours, in that regard. Live and learn.

The other stuff sounds a bit like bad luck. Luckily I'm sure he has insurance.

First- he better be fixing everything for free. Breaking the roof into the attic could be bad luck/ stupid mistake but I'd start to be a little wary. Breaking the house sewer line after that would have me worried. I'm pretty compulsive with expecting things to be done right with care and have learned long ago that the contractor world is often the opposite. ;).

You should never have hired demlion as your contractor. What's worse is he's also a lawyer so you're really screwed.:(

HAA! He will be damned lucky if his house is still standing when I get done. I guess we better button up that carport pretty tight since he and his whole family will be living there next winter. gonna need some curtains.:)

LOL, that's probably true. Another possibility is that Dem is tired of dragging his boat out of the trees, and has decided that your carport would be a perfect place to store it when it's not in use, so the "accidents" are intentional. Never underestimate the twisted mind of Dem. :D

Sorry to hear that, Apex. I'm tempted to think that the contractor is a Wolfpack fan who learned of your Tarheel connections. But, really, he can't afford to indulge his fanhood in performing professional services, esp. in an area where a number of partisan fans of various stripes reside.

Somewhere in the bad luck/incompetence area....leaning toward incompetence. How has the communication gone to this point?

Seems like this GC is in a hurry to get this done. Failure to protect the work by letting the concrete truck do that damage to the driveway. Same thing with the bobcat. Did the GC at least do a One Call for utilities?

If it were me, I would be putting the GC's GL carrier on notice.
