FB Recruiting Penn State lands star in-state TE Andrew Olesh over Michigan, Oregon

Great news! Always take a top 10 player at his position.

But wish the staff could pull in a player between now and the Feb signing day with the maturity to help the team in 2025 at DE or DT, or WR, as those positions seem like they could be the weakest going into 2025. Will most likely have to look for the portal for help there. Great that the TE room seems well stocked for the next few years.

And for those that value "expert" ratings, Olish's addition could get the class 247 composite average to the 0.90 threshold.

Unreal! I didn't give us a chance. He must have had to wrestle long and hard. We are a TE breeder. I wish we could have a little of that success bleed over into WR recruiting....

Lookiing over the 2025 class 247 Pennsylvania top players list the only players to not have signed yet are:

#1 Olesh
#4 DE Mathis, still committed to uh-high-ya per the site. Maybe he's still negotiating.....
#29 DL B.Battles from Allentown CC. Wonder if the staff has been in his ear for a 2nd DT with size....

The committed walkon? kicker, M. Parker from York, also shows as not signed yet.

I'm surprised that the staff couldn't flip Gompers, the LB from Pittsburgh CC. He was a wrecking ball for CC down the stretch run of the season for them.

Losing Gompers was perhaps my biggest disappointment this recruiting cycle. He looks like a special player.

You and a lot of other people you have a lot of company PS landing him is at least a mild surprise for me.

I know this isn't NSD, but I've been waiting for years for one of the NSD Flips out of nowhere. I think this counts as one of those. Great job on the staff in never giving up and getting it done.

It is a very odd class as it is a little disappointing in overall per player rating as we are closer to Wiscy than Texas in that regard, but in terms of hitting as many needs as possible I think it is one of the more comprehensive classes in many years. And importantly, I think it keeps us viable for the playoffs for years to come. I do agree that we need another addition, particularly 4 star DT. We can use a WR, but that need is too immediate and is going to have to come from the portal.

Excellent get. Shocked we landed him. Particularly after the other commit earlier in the week

I agree to an extent, but we needed 3 DTs in this class and only got one. DT is one position we needed an influx of talent. After this year we will be very thin not just numbers wise but talent wise. I hope Durant returns next year and I think he will, but if he doesn’t we’ll have zero experienced DTs or difference makers. Durant seems to be underrated and due to his size probably won’t be a high enough draft pick to come out this year which bodes well for us next year. We’ll need at least one experienced DT from the portal.

2 things. He's tight with Diaz, and he loves Duke University.

The Olesh commitment doesn't surprise me all that much. Once he recommitted from his verbal to Michigan I felt pretty good about it. Given that he's from PA and Penn State's success in developing tight ends in the last 8-10 years, it seemed like a no brainer to me.

Why do we need 3 DT's in the 2025 class? They won't help in 2025 the year when the DT position will have the least Mature DT's from PSU recruiting classes.

The 2024 class had 4 DT's:
Liam Andrews .9435 247 composite, rated as an Olinemen
T.A. Cunningham .8828
Xavior Gilliam .8758 Already over 300lbs and got some snaps this season.
De'Andre Cook .8700

Can't see the staff taking 7 DT's within comsecutive classes.

The roster has had a great nucleus of experienced DT's the last two season and that will be hard to replace since the 2022 and 2023 classes had a combined 3 DT's, Durant, Artis and Blanding, and there are no DT's remaining from the low rated 2021 class who could be mature 5th year players for 2025. The 2023 DE Mupoyi recently moved to DT as well. Mupoyi, Artis and Blanding haven't flashed on the field to date but will have the opportunity to step up and compliment Durant, but as you said PSU will likely need an influx of 1 or 2 mature DT's from the portal to replace the group that move on after this season (Ellies, Izzard and the already gone Beamon).

The staff projects Kemajou to play DT, been the plan since he committed. He’s also seen his stock skyrocket after his senior year. Adrika also had 20 TFL this season in one of the most competitive high school leagues in FL. I’d say we’re cooking at DT this cycle.

Now let’s drop an NIL bag to get one more year out of Durant.

Kemajou is 230. Adrika is the only legit DT and hopefully can contribute. Andrews, Gilliam, and Cook were obviously not ready to even sniff the rotation at DT. We have not landed a big bodied difference maker at DT since PJ Mustipher.

PSU must bring in a a starter ready DT from the portal for 2025.

Zane Durant says hello
Yeah said Durant will be our stud next year, but he wasn’t a big bodied difference maker when we recruited him. I think he was very underrated this year and isn’t perceived as a high draft pick which will have him returning next year. Not sure who will be our second DT next year.

Was the expectation that we’d have a freshman “big bodied difference maker”? That’s extremely rare. They don’t exactly grow on trees.

Get Durant back and pair him with Gilliam, Blanding, and a healthy Ford and I think we’re good. Yes, to others’ points, wouldn’t hurt to find an additional depth piece in the portal.

I don't think the expectation was. Some here might lament about it, but those game changing DTs tend to be unheralded 3*s more often than the can't miss 5*s.

I think the staff made a good decision going heavy at DT last year knowing that our losses this off season would be huge. If we see any of our depth guys portal out this December, I would say that indicates we are going to hit the portal.
