Below is a compilation of the senior men's freestyle information we know, current as of 1/10/2020. I thought it a good idea to organize this, hopefully in an understandable way, all in one place, as a reference for anyone that is interested. It would be a good idea to pin this, so it stays available, at least through to the Olympics. I will continue to edit this post through-out the process.

OLYMPIC QUALIFYING

Additional qualifier tournaments shall be held;
-- March 13-15 Pan-American Olympic Games Qualifier – TOP-2 FINISHERS earn their country that weight at the Olympics (Countries with qualified weights cannot enter a wrestler at that weight)
-- April 30-May 3 World Olympic Games Qualifier – TOP-2 FINISHERS earn their country that weight at the Olympics (Countries with qualified weights cannot enter a wrestler at that weight)

MISCELLANEOUS OTHER, of interest;
January 15-18 Matteo Pellicone, in Rome, Italy. Several USA Wrestlers will attend as this is a Ranking Series event for Olympic Seeding.

OLYMPIC GAMES
-- July 24 Opening Ceremony
-- August 2-8 WRESTLING (All three disciplines)

How do individual Americans qualify for the two remaining Olympic qualifier tournaments? I don't believe I've seen this addressed, and I haven't been able to find a source with that information. Hard to imagine those tournaments have open registration. Thanks.

EDIT:

I found this from the UWW:

QUALIFICATION SYSTEM – GAMES OF THE XXXII OLYMPIAD – TOKYO 2020

https://cdn.dosb.de/user_upload/Oly...kationskriterien/UWW_-_Wrestling_20180316.pdf

It states:
For all the wrestling competitions that are part of the qualification system for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, the NOCs may enter a maximum of one (1) wrestler per weight category in each style.

I believe NOC is Nation of Competitor. So how does USAW determine who our one wrestler will be for each tournament. I believe the winner of Olympic Trials would be the rep for the Last Chance World Qualifier Tournament, but how to we decide our representative for the Pan Am Qualifier?

USA Coaches (and wrestlers, I assume) determine the most likely guy to earn the qualifier spot. It does get dicey if it comes down to the Last Chance Qualifier.

Given the talent at the Pan Am Qualifier, I'd bet that the USA will have several choices (of USA wrestlers), and still be confident in a top-2 finish.

I'm excited to see wrestle offs this weekend for some of women's freestyle spots at the Pan Am and wonder why we don't see more wrestle offs on the US team. I'm not sure how other countries (or even the US with other sports) decide their teams, but using one tournament to decide the representative for the year has room for lots of flaws. Injuries being a main one.

DT stated that Pan Am is when he will be returning to competition, though I'm not sure how this conclusion was decided. If it was the coach saying they think DT is the best option and that's it, then I'd be jacked if I was Downey. I'm not saying DT isn't the better option, but losing the starting job to someone coming off a yearlong injury without any kind of head to head competition would be frustrating.

What weights has US qualified a Mens FS spot at the Olympics, and how many more opportunities are there?
Is there any concern US may not qualify a weight?

74kg and 97kg for Men's Freestyle
68kg and 76kg for Women's Freestyle
0 weights qualified for Greco

Best place to see which countries have qualified which weights is here...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wrestling_at_the_2020_Summer_Olympics_–_Qualification

I'm not concerned about the USA qualifying all six weights for Men's Freestyle. Here's a cut/paste from earlier in this thread (assuming you missed it)...

Additional qualifier tournaments shall be held;
-- March 13-15 Pan-American Olympic Games Qualifier – TOP-2 FINISHERS earn their country that weight at the Olympics (Countries with qualified weights cannot enter a wrestler at that weight)
-- April 30-May 3 World Olympic Games Qualifier – TOP-2 FINISHERS earn their country that weight at the Olympics (Countries with qualified weights cannot enter a wrestler at that weight)

...so, two more chances. I'll add that the women have a great chance of getting all six weights qualified too. Greco probably won't get all six. we'll see.

The latest issue of WIN Magazine has listing of the qualifiers for the Trials in a April...it peaked my interest when I saw BO listed at 86KG, has anyone else seen any confirmation from BO that he will be dropping?

I'm either unclear, misunderstand or just not very smart. Will the "Final X" also be wrestled at the Olympic Trials or at a later date as in the past?

No Final X as there are only VI weight classes. Entire meet will be that weekend in the BJC.

i think our biggest worry for MFS would be that the USA guy gets put on the same side as a cuban guy and loses (could be DT vs torreblanca) since it's just finalists that qualify, no true second. then they'd have to go to the last chance qualifier which is definitely going to be a tough tournament at every weight.
