Journal has an article on the 50 most valuable college MBB teams, if they were sold on the open market, like a pro franchise.

Penn State is ranked number 33 , right behind IA State, K state, Texas & Pitt (29) 6 positions ahead of Oklahoma, 7 positions in front of Villanova , At least ten ahead of Georgetown, Virginia & Gonzaga.

Criteria , put together by an academic are revenues & expenses , risk assessments (whatever that means) & growth potential

Credibility is totally lost when you see Northwestern is rated at a higher value than Michigan Must be all those march madness appearances by the Wildcats

The criteria you listed are why. Men's basketball turns a profit at PSU, despite woeful attendance. Because of the TV contracts and lack of spending compared to other schools. Then there is the potential if you turn it around. Revenue from another 5000+ per game, plus merchandising, etc. Of course, you need to spend money to make money--and that might be a wash with future gains, I don't know. I think Sandy gets it, but there is a limit to how much they can commit right now. But at least she seems committed to figuring it out. That's another reason Chambers gets more time. She comes from the outside, she she's the past lack of commitment to winning from a support standpoint.
