On February 27, 1933 the German Parliament building burned, Adolf Hitler rejoiced, and the Nazi era began. Hitler, who had just been named head of a government that was legally formed after the democratic elections of the previous November, seized the opportunity to change the system. “There will be no mercy now,” he exulted. “Anyone standing in our way will be cut down.”

Wish they would have rebuilt it to its original specs. Not a fan of the 'new' Bundestag architecture.

No. The Nazi Era began when the United States refused to support the League of Nations. Congress wasn't interested in America being involved in European affairs.

Where was ISIS under Sadam? Once you create a vacuum, either you fill it or someone else will. Hitler and the Brown Shirts did exactly that.

What do you think would happen to Iraq if we pulled out completely? America will be there for 100 years building their infrastructure, educating their children and ensuring peace.

My guess was going to be that some kid walked up to a 7-year old Joe Paterno in a Brooklyn schoolyard and told him that some guy who wouldn't be born for another 9 years molested him. And Paterno told him he had a game of kick the can to get ready for and he couldn't be bothered.

P.S. Sorry to hijack your Hitler thread.

Yeah, everything is the fault of the United States.

NO, the "cause" was the hatred (Imperialism) between nations in Europe and the HEAVY HAND of greed through reparations from England and France. The U.S. as not a player is this. But, such is why we now "try" to manage the world :)

True. The US had nothing to do with kicking off the Nazi era as some here have suggested. The Nazis arose from a weak Weimar Republic, the Great Depression/ unemployment, and draconian/ humiliating sanctions on Germany post WW1 (by France, England etc) that Hitler used to drum up support.

The League of Nations has no real bearing on this. Germany, Italy and Japan were all members of the League of Nations IIRC and pulled out with WW2. The USA not being a member is irrelevant and was not a cause of Nazi Germany.

And don't forget the hyperinflation. While the Weimar Republic folks *did* manage to fix it, it left serious scars on the German psyche.

I think France was more at fault for the absurd reparations that were demanded of Germany. WWI was terrible, but Germany was probably no more to blame for it than France or Great Britain were.
