Not D1 football, but D3 Centennial Conference has suspended all fall sports competition and determined football will not be played in the fall.

"In response to the unprecedented challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Centennial Conference Presidents Council has been meeting diligently to address the safety and well-being of students, faculty, staff and their communities. As institutions finalize their plans for the coming year, federal, state and local health guidance, as well as institutional policies, will guide their independent decisions regarding reopening.

Given health and other related concerns, the Centennial Conference Presidents Council has decided to suspend any intercollegiate competition for sports scheduled for the fall semester. The presidents will reevaluate this decision by the end of September, based on work to be done by the Conference to assess sports-specific activities and the experiences on the schools' campuses. The presidents have determined football will not be played in the fall. The Conference will also explore the possibility of shifting certain fall sports, including football, to the spring."

These colleges most likely loss money on sports and can not afford them this year.

What I wrote may have been a little misleading. It is just intercollegiate competition that is being suspended, not the actual sports.

At the D3 level, all the sports lose money. However, the schools look at as a net gain when they consider the tuition/R&B expenses. Many look at as the kids playing sports probably would not be on campus if not for the sport. That is why you see particularly private D3 schools add football, it get another 80 to 100 men to the campus, which is a big deal when many of those schools at 65 to 70% female.

Redshirt everyone who qualifies. The risk of burning yet another year of eligibility for nothing is too high. Punt. The thought makes me sick but I can't see another logical course forward this year.

We still might have a champ or two or three to enjoy (Starocci, Beard, Kirk) can Kirk take an Oly RS? Guys like Berge, Manville, Seth &/or Joe Lee might surprise.

Even with Howard, RBY, Lee, Bartlett & Brooks on the sidelines we will be competitive. Then watch out the next year, wow.
