One step deeper in the backfield...

For the RBs...
All four were able to jump cut when needed.
RPO only deployed a few times. Woo Flippin Hoo!

We've all been saying it for years, but the flat footed, long mesh, handoffs in the backfield to flat/slow footed running-backs has been asinine. We had a lot of success during Barkley's years to be sure, but I wonder how much better he/we would have been with these run sets. Its also so nice to see the QB under center for short yardage. How many 3rd and 1s' have we gotten tackled 3 yards deep in the backfield like dead ducks over the years? Nick SIngleton and Allen don't p*ssy foot in the backfield, they are looking to hit holes and punish with speed and power. We looked like a Big Ten offense yesterday which shows tremendous progress from our coaches.

Yep. The worst part of the old offense, where both the qb and rb stopped 3yds behind the los, was that defenses always knew where the ball would be.

If there was a breakdown in the OL the play always failed.

We’ve gone under center at least half a dozen times each game and those extra 2 yards that the tail back gets from that formation is huge. Down the road they’re going to hit a big play action pass from under center
The more formations that are successful in gaining yards makes the opponents job harder.

I love the single back sets under center. Gives the RB momentum towards the line and options to find a hole to run through.

We got Tight Ends that are good receivers. There are absolutely big plays to be had out of those running formations. No reason to break them out for the last couple blow outs. Got to think some big plays are going to be needed to beat OSU and Mich.
