One year ago today... #409

Kudos to Commonwealth Court Judge Anne Covey for her role in the Corman v. NCAA case. Her questioning of whether or not the consent decree was valid led to the NCAA giving Joe back his wins. It is too bad that Corman settled allowing the NCAA to exit the case gracefully. He should have insisted on complete surrender and forced the NCAA to admit they were wrong.

Corman took the money, left the wins and sanctions. The $60 Million should have been returned, too. F*ck Corman.

The truth of the matter is.....it was one of the WORST days in the entire PSU saga.

Validated the NCAA's actions....and - most importantly - killed the best opportunity we may EVER have to get at the truth behind the actions of the 11/2011 BOT. (Oh...how many idiots chanted about how this "victory" moved the ball down to the "2 yard line" against the NCAA.....and the "Paterno Suit" would soon push the ball into the End Zone. Laugh or cry?)
That's not a worthy tradeoff for removing an asterisk from a record book (an asterisk that would have been removed, eventually, anyway)

Not only that, the idiot let the bot sign a second decree when Covey would not have allowed it. How many people think Covey would have granted an increase in schollies above the 85 and other items if Corman had asked for real damages to make PSU whole? You think Covey would have made the NCAA reimburse attorneys fees?

Although some folks might think I am overly critical of the elected members of the BOT (for the record, I think that is BS), there have only been TWO times where I think any of them royally "screwed our pooch".

The first was with the approval of the initial $60 Million or so in victim settlement money (only two of our current elected Trustees were "on board" at that time).
The second was the approval of the Corman surrender (I believe eight of our current elected Trustees were "on board" for that one).

Both of those situations involved "confounding factors"....but they were f&ckups nonetheless.

FWIW, we all make mistakes....and - in lieu of NOT making the mistake in the first place - the most important thing is to recognize the mistake and to learn from it.
I think - in both of those cases - most of the Trustees DO recognize their mistake.
Maybe as many as "all but one" of them.....recognize the error involved in those two situations.
So......that is good. Live and learn.

I've posted this before but it's uncanny how many times a day I see the number 409. Maybe it's because I am very aware of the number now but the coincidence is remarkable. Everywhere I turn I see it...microwave timer, iPhone clock, time left in a basketball game I'm watching , my hotel room number, change on my purchase at the deli, cost of my replacement iPad yesterday (4 hundred and 9 dollars) and the most bizarre of all, it's the security code on one of my kids first credit cards just issued in December. Crazy
