The Athletic Department apparently realizes it is a good idea to hear directly from fans. Maybe the Alumni Association should follow their lead and design a mechanism for regular, direct communications with alumni (other than the insiders serving on the Council). Let's stop guessing about what alumni want and think about key issues.

They are going to argue that that's exactly what the Alumni Council does.

No doubt, but in reality it is a very insular, sometimes elitist group. They need to make it easier to hear from the "regular Joe" alums who are the backbone of the PSAA and the university. In any case, we know the PSAA is currently doing a lousy job of representing the attitudes of a large segment of us

As to the Athletic Department, it is long overdue. Too bad it wasn't in effect pre-STEP. That said, opening the lines of communication is great, provided they actually listen. I have my doubts. For years I heard the Athletic Department talk about "loyalty", and then found out loyalty was a one way street. I fear their communication ideas are much the same. When it comes to the Alumni Association, I have even less hope. I was slow to discover it is an elitist group that only cares about some alumni. Certainly, Toni, I know you hope to change that, and I support your efforts, but I have almost reached the point where I don't give a damn. Still, I appreciate what you are trying to do and I wish you success.

Thanks. fair. I hear you. I think we are all realistic about our ability to make significant change, but at least we can shine the light on their shenanigans.

Not to be cynical .... but unfortunately the lone voices that will truly be heard will be the ones handing a large check to the university.
