For some reason a lot of non-PSUers would pick Franklin. A local radio host raised my ire by saying CJF is everything that's wrong with college football. I really don't get that.

I like Switzer actually. He was a big time “players coach” and always seemed to want the best for his guys. If anything a lot of his issues stemmed from the fact that he was too lenient/let his players get away with too much. I’m sure he was involved in all of the shenanigans associated with Big 8/SEC/SWC programs during that era, such as paying players and academic fraud to keep kids eligible. However, I don’t think his actions were out of the ordinary unfortunately.
I agree. And the thing that I like best about Switzer is that he was always honest about himself. Switzer never pretended to be self-righteous. He openly admitted that his job was to win football games and he was going to twist, bend, distort ... and use every angle possible to win football games.
I have more of an issue with a fake like Bobby Bowden, who would get in front of the cameras and give his good-ol-boy "dad gummit" and act like good old Uncle Bobby. When you knew he was the biggest fake and phony on Earth.
Maybe Joe and Big Barry made up, but this the guy was sleazy. He use to leave practice, to see one of his assistant coaches wife!! He knew he wouldnt get caught , no way an assistant would leave practice. That was Barry, Bootlegger son.

On the preceding play, PSU DB Adam Taliaferro was injured and taken off the field, paralyzed.
Perfect time for the Buckeyes to simply take a knee and end it, as even their own fans were stunned and subdued by the serious injury to the Lion player.
But what does Cooper call? A pass. It was completed for a first down and the Buckeyes ran it in from there to make the score 45-7.
To me, that was the "sleaziest" call I have ever seen.

Not a Bobby Petrino fan one bit, but don't understand why he's mentioned. In the football circles he preaches and practices discipline with following the rules with the NCAA. His personal life years ago was a mess, for sure, but I would put a 100 others in front of him for "sleaziest" coaches. The Sabans, Meyers, etc. are above slimery than Petrino.

To be clear. I am NOT saying Switzer was not sleazy. I totally agree that Switzer was the slimy greaseball used car salesman. I'm just saying that he at least admitted it. All these other guys -- Jimbo Fisher, Urban Meyer, Bobby Bowden... -- they play the good old boy / holier than thou role with the cameras. Switzer did not try to hide who & what he was.
I guess I'd prefer the low life to punch me in the face when at least I'm looking, than stab me in the back.

Bobby Petrino is definitely one of the sleaziest in history. He was just an un-ethical person.
There are strifes about him down here in Atlanta, of things he did while with the Falcons that are just unreal and paint a picture of a real loser.

Bugs me too.. maybe the Vandy stuff? I don't know. To me the reflection of a coach is how well his players represent themselves during and after playing at Penn State. As far as the kids that play in the NFL, I rarely see anything negative about a Penn State kid. I mean.. Saquan Barkley is becoming the face of the NFL, right? Shouldn't Franklin get a little credit for producing such a good character player?

Not quite. Let me preface this by saying I'm glad JF came to PSU & the BIG. But Franklin has engaged in some pretty sleazeball tactics.
Northwestern likes to schedule home & home series with peer schools ND, Stanford, Duke & Vandy, etc. Well, we had a home & home series with Vandy while Franklin was there. We beat Vandy in Nashville & were anxiously awaiting the return game in Evanston - getting to see an SEC team come up north for a change. Well, less than 3 months before the game Franklin pulled out via fax - not even a courtesy call. He had his sister of the poor team lined up for another home game, instead of playing a BIG team on the road. Of course, Vandy had to pay huge $$$ for breaking the contract. It left us scrambling to fill the home date.
It worked out well for Franklin - for Vandy & NU, not so much.
So well I respect Franklin, I certainly wouldn't say he is ALL class.
I can't find anyone info on this event on the internet. Are you sure that Vandy canceled the game without a large payday lined up to cover the penalty for breaking the contract? Are you sure that it was James Franklin who made that decision, and not the AD? Even it if it was, I don't think that making such a decision would meet the definition of 'sleazy'.
