125: Mega (A+) Was well on his way to a dominating win when he got the fall. Great to see the big smile and outpour of emotion from the usually stoic Nico.

133: Conaway (A) Solid win over a guy that has been wrestling well over the last month. So close to the major, and an A+, lol.

141: Gulibon (B+) Wrestled a tuff 7 minutes. Heil was just better. If Jimmy can maintain that intensity in the post season, he will do well.

149: Retherford (B-) Was too interested in riding out the second period. Actually wish the ref did call stalling because Collica had nothing but face slaps from neutral; didn't take one shot in the third despite losing.

157: Nolf (A+) Gets the fall by refusing to finish a tf. Guy is a freak of nature.

165: Morelli (C-) I know it's Dieringer, but Gino has shown a lot more then that this year. His usual stout defense just wasn't there.

174: Nickal (A) Did what he was supposed to do against an overmatched opponent.

184: McCutch (incomplete) Took the early lead and looked sharp up until aggravating the knee injury. I know Cael says he's fine, but I'm worried.

197: McIntosh (A+) Just like Nico, went out with a bang for his last home appearance.

285: Johnson (A) Showed a lot of heart and some offense despite being drastically out weighted by a quality senior.

Small correction: Zain A+ for getting Iowa fans excited that there's a chance :D

Happy for BJ Clagon for getting some quality mentions again.

FT good write up overall. couldnt agree more at 141, 165 & 184.

What those Iowa fans don't seem to understand is that Collica was never even close to scoring. His one escape was the best he could do. It'll be the same with Sorenson. He won't score on Zain.

Zain was determined to get the leg in on Collica. Collica knew it and was defending against it. The only criticism I have of Zain in the match was that he could have, and maybe should have, moved to a different ride from top because Collica wasn't going to let him get a leg in. It was either that or cut him. He's better than Collica from neutral.

One of the things that was never going to happen in that match was Zain being dinged for multiple stalling calls. If the ref would have started the count when Collica stood up Zain would have cut him. He wasn't going to simply hang on while the ref continued to count. The idea that he should have been hit with multiple stall calls is absurd, because it never would have gotten to that point.

Collica was never going to beat Zain last night. He wasn't going to take him down and he wasn't going to ride him. The single thing Collica did in the match that deserves any kind of praise is the fact that he knew Zain would try to get the leg in and he defended against it. Sorenson will come as close to scoring on Zain as Collica did, which is not close at all.

The rule is when the leg is in before the bottom man is to his feet, a stalemate not a stall call. Stupid rule. Same situation as Cruz and Gulibon. So there was no reason to expect any stall calls despite Smith stomping around with his fist raised.

As far as Collica. If Zain had agreed to wear a blind fold, have his hands tied behind his back and feet tied so he about 12 inches of movement. I believe Collica still would not have taken a shot. Smith should have been a little more interested in why despite Collica losing he never even faked a shot. I suppose they practice that in the room. When you are behind with 30 seconds to go, dance, hand tie and hope the other guy falls down.

So you're saying Collica needs to work on a duck under when down by 1 pt?

Another small correction, believe it's "Geno", not "Gino" - I know both forms are used, but we should show respect for the name identified by the PSU wrestler himself.

Not sure if it is still the rule, but as you say, it used to be that if a top wrestler had legs in and bottom wrestler stood up, whistle for "potentially dangerous" was immediately whistled because one of the most logical moves for bottom wrestler to attempt from that standing position would be a forward roll which would be highly dangerous to the necks of both parties (ditto, the opposite, a "backward slam" by the standing bottom wrestler by simply falling straight backwards all of his weight onto the top wrestler.). Maybe that is just interscholastic wrestling (e.g., high school rules) and they don't call "potentially dangerous" in that position at the Collegiate Folk level...

Additionally, on at least one of the occasions, Collica first grabbed and held Zain's foot....no way a wrestler can disengage legs if bottom wrestler grabs foot preventing it.....also, no way you can call stalling on top wrestler in that situation -- the only thing you can call is "stalemate" to stop the action because you can't very well ask the top wrestler to disengage and improve his position (e.g., attempt to take bottom wrestler back to mat) if the bottom wrestler grabs his foot and refuses to let go.

Agreed, I was hoping he would try his "bow & arrow" ride on him as Collica was looking for him to throw legs in and would stand and grab his foot to "burn" scoring time as soon as Zain would go there. Collica looked completely unconcerned about giving up massive amounts of riding time and looked more interested in burning tons of time from a position he knew Zain could do nothing from (e.g., standing and grabbing Zain's foot after he threw the legs in, not letting go of the foot and then doing nothing else....).
