ERIE, Pa. (CBS) –– Pennsylvania State Police say the alleged ‘Facebook killer’ Steve Stephens has been found dead in Erie County, Pennsylvania.

Authorities say Stephens shot and killed himself after a brief pursuit.

Watching that old man on TV just before he was shot (I did not and will not watch the murder) will haunt me for the rest of my life. Thankfully, it appears his sick and demented killer is now gone from the face of the earth.

I had the misfortune of clicking on a Facebook "news" story and seeing the entire thing--I didn't realize it when clicking, and it was the saddest/most disgusting thing I've witnessed. It wasn't my intent to watch it, and it's going to stick with me for a very long time.

I couldn't watch it and won't. I good life taken because some stupid asshole can't control himself. It feels more and more like our nation lacks character. I know he was just one crazy but add all those one crazies together and you end up with an awful lot of crazies. RIP.

Agree. I watched it expecting for it to pause or fade out because it was on FB but it didn't and it will live in my mind forever.

The world we live in, and it'll probably get worse.

Not that it really matters but I find the wording interesting ... found dead like he was found in some remote area dead by officers not that as officers approached he took his own life. So I guess technically correct as officers found him dead in his car after they watched him take his own life ... just weird wording to me anyway

Too bad he didn't just kill himself before killing an innocent man. Fortunately I have not seen the video and if I am lucky I won't.

I never watch any of this stuff. I'm barely on Facebook or twitter - not solely because of this, but social media in general is cold and banal. Less reported on but happened recently (maybe last week) was some teenager (13 or so) who accidentally killed himself while broadcasting on 'Facebook Live'. Can you imagine watching that - live??

They site the incident to have taken place at "Buffalo Road & Downing Ave" which is an urban area in Erie's "Lower East Side" (Buffalo Road is PA Route 20) well inside the City Limits of Erie - the Eastern Boundry of the City of Erie on Buffalo Road is "Bird Drive" I believe which is well beyond Downing Ave where this incident took place.

The City of Erie is the County Seat of Erie County, but it is also one of the largest City's in PA. The article is a bit misleading in acting like this guy was being chased and shot himself out in some unpopulated, desolate area of Erie County.... This location is in an extremely urban area (albeit a pretty bad urban area) in the City of Erie.
