I decided to start this because this is less about Lee's tactics than about specific action on the second day.
  1. How far did the extreme right of Longstreet's Corps (Evander Law's brigade, I believe) have to march from their staging area through Devil's Den and then on to Little Round Top?
  2. Where exactly was Hood wounded? How far was this from the staging area? How far from Devil's Den? How long after Law's brigade was sent off? (I know that it was en echelon attack, at least according to The Killer Angels, so Law went off first by himself, followed by the others to his left.)

None of Law's regiments went thru Devils Den; the 44th and 48th Alabama did advance to the south of Devil's Den on the Plum Run. Total distance traveled by Law's Brigade from the point it pushed off to LRT was approximately between a mile and 1 1/2 miles.

The location of Hood's wounding is believed to be in the Bushman orchard, less than 500 yards from the point of advance. That point is approximately 1,000 yards as the crow flies from Devils Den. As to the timing of his wounding, he originally remained with Robertson's Brigade after it advanced and then rode to the south to the orchard where he would have been behind the center of his Brigade. Time; I don't know.

Yeah, I keep forgetting, perhaps because Devil's Den is so accessible, that the Confederate right was below Devil's Den. But don't you mean the 15th Alabama, Oates' regiment?

EDIT: A map on this link shows that somehow 48th and 44th Alabama, originally on the far right, cut across or behind the rest of Law's Brigade and skirted Devil's Den, leaving Oates' 15th Alabama on the far right.

This would have been a perfect thread view response. Nice.

The 48th and 44th were ordered toward the Union artillery on the ridge above Devils Den which was firing on Law's Brigade as it advanced. I don't know what you mean about the 15th AL, it advanced to the top of BRT.

I was puzzled because I had thought that Oates' 15th Alabama must have been at the far right of the Confederate line (it wasn't, it was third in line from the right). Since it was the 15th that hit 20th Maine (far left of the Union line) on LRT, I was wondering how that could have happened, I was asking myself what happened to the two regiments that were on the right of the 15th. The map I found made that clear, and your answer illuminated that.
