Thanks! I always liked this publication. I'm having trouble sleeping and I downloaded it to Good Reader. This will help. I've always thought that their High School Yearbook parody was hilarious. Larry Kroger (of Animal House fame) was a central character in that issue!

I still remember their photo joke about Ted Kennedy: "Senator, what will you do if the Convention drafts you? I'll drive off the bridge when I come to it".

I still have the Yearbook parody... to me, one of the funniest things I've ever read, both in broad humor and very subtle humor as well. Absolute genius imo.
And yes, a few of the characters from the parody made their way into Animal House, at least in name. Mandy Pepperidge was another.

OC and Stiggs was the the funniest issue of National Lampoon that I can ever remember reading. I was in the hospital at the time for surgery, and I almost pulled my stitches out from laughing so hard.

Chris Miller was one of the screen writers of Animal House. The movie drew heavily from his fraternity days at Dartmouth. Prior to writing Animal House, Miller wrote a story in the Lampoon called night of the seven fires about his fraternity initiation. Does anyone remember the story? When I read that story i was shocked because it was remarkably similar to my own initiation and not just the drunken bacanalia. It was the setting, time of year, the fires etc.

You have to read: Amazon product ASIN 0312552262
It details all the true stories at Alpha Delta Phi at Dartmouth that went into the making of Animal House. The Night of the Seven Fires is in there, as well as some events that were far too wild to put in the film. They also recap what happened to the real fraternity brothers. Some, like Bluto, became surprisingly successful and famous (and not in film or comedy).
