Vonn goes out with one final podium at the world championship winning Bronze in the downhill. She had a truly great career. I'll have to go ski the run named for her today, "Lindsey's".

She definitely will have some issues when she gets older. She beat the literal daylights out of her body. A real competitor with a fierce spirit. Bravo to her courage and on an amazing career.

She was at a corporate event I attended ... post surgery, cast on the leg, struggling to get around, signing autographs, taking photos with a few hundred people. Was totally cool the entire time. Really nice woman. And attractive.

BINGO!

Read some hints about how her USA teammates didn't care for her either.

Really??? That is all you have... She won't go to the White House if she won a medal... Like how many other athletes across all sports??? I don't agree with her position but that does not make her a bad person in the least. A few teammates don't like her because she got extra syrup on her pancakes?? These are ultimate athlete's that are extremely competitive and many have been coddled their whole career so suddenly now she gets attention because she dated Tiger and has been on many magazine covers. Jealousy abounds by a few or people have an ax to grind with her. Again does not make her a bad person. You need to bring a lot more to the table than this...

Seriously? That's it? I have been a Republican my entire life and support the Trump administration. While I think her position is WRONG it doesn't make her a jerk or EVIL person. I doubt you know anything about her beyond what you have read in the papers. We all know or should know how reliable that is.

This is what is wrong with modern politics. One side claiming they are good and the other evil. I fully understand the desire to fight back with the same tactics but some of us have to be the adults in the room and do the right thing. If we don't get rid of this good versus evil approach we are all doomed.

Well said sir - we absolutely need more civility IRT our fellow citizens. Role models in DC are in short supply. I applaud you for your post, even though you’re completely wrong about the POTUS, and thus EVIL!!!
:cool::p:eek:

Sorry,...she is a Class-A jerk!

The thing I didn’t like about her was the constant drama at the Olympics about her. Part of it was NBC as that crap is catnip for their post 1996 or so viewing demographic (skewing female which now leads to way too much coverage of gymnastics in the summer and figure skating in the winter, and human interest stories instead of live coverage), but a large part was Vonn herself. It’s no secret that Julia Mancuso - a clutch big race skier in her prime - was sick of the all-Lindsey show.

Nobody wants that loser at the White House. She doesn’t like the USA let her go to Africa, she would fit right in

Agreed! People need to stop asking for civility from one side only. When the "tolerant" left stops discriminating against people because of their political beliefs, we can talk about bilateral civility. Until that happens, the push back is justified and will continue.

There was an easy fix available for Mancuso: ski better.

this has been an interesting thread ... Vonn is a trailer park slut / bad person because the lesser skier on the team thought Vonn was getting too much media attention during the Olympics .... because she does not like Trump .... because she is a member of the "tolerant left" ....

This thread has flown off the rails!

Oops - Except she did at the Olympics where Mancuso was extremely clutch and won the most medals by an American female skier ever. Of course, Shiffrin will annihilate both Mancuso’s American Olympics records and Vonn’s World Cup and Championships records soon.

Mancuso was great and a cool chick, but it was all Lindsey all the time even though Mancuso outshined her at the Games.

The Glov is trolling all over the place on this thread - “liking” diametrically opposed posts almost willy-nilly while providing most of the kindling for the bonfire to roast Vonn on.

Excellent work Glov.

To be honest, Vonn is a stud though I’m not a huge fan anymore. It’s Shiffrin time and that’s about time. She is a superstar and will shatter the records as long as she stays fairly healthy.

To the rest of the world, skiing isn't just the olympic games. It's world cup and the world championships. Mancuso had a nice career but it does not come close to Vonn who, like her or not, is the greatest female skier ever. The way she's going Shiffrin will pass her, and everybody else if she remains injury free. It's a very tough sport and sadly injuries happen when pushing yourself to the limit.

Come on guys.

Do a little research.

Or, given that you're on a college football message board badmouthing a retiring skier, you could relay the substance of your harsh accusations. Given that this is a thread dedicated to honoring her, when you interrupt said thread, you can at least be man enough to back your attacks on her with someone more than "Come on guys. Do a little research."

Just saying.

Oh yeah, Julia Mancuso. Now there’s a skier I could really get behind.

But it really is just the Olympic games "to the rest of the world".
Skiing is not unique in that regard. Figure skaters like Michelle Kwan won all sorts of world championships... but unfortunately for her she was a failure at the Olympics when it mattered.

Skiing and skating costs a lot of money. The Olympics is the one time when athletes from the wealthiest countries are on a somewhat even footing.

This is not a direct attack on Vonn, who undoubtedly is the most decorated female skier ever, just that the Olympics are the biggest stage.

The olympics may be the biggest stage, that's especially true in he US, but in skiing, winning world cups is what makes you an international star. Win multiple world cups and you are in very rarified air and worshipped forever.

For men's downhill the Streif on Mt. Hahnenkamm is probably bigger than the olympics, at least outside the US. If you can find it there is a great documentary on the race called "Streif - One Hell of a Ride". Here is a link to the trailer: https://www.redbull.com/int-en/tv/video/AP-1Q93UJWN11W11/streif

I saw it a couple years ago. It is one of the best sports documentaries I have ever seen. Great even if you are not into skiing. I think you can find a version for free somewhere. Well worth a look even if you have to pay the $2.99.

Thanks for the info. And yeah I agree for the skiing community the Olympics isn't the biggest stage but we are talking about "to the rest of the world" which means outside the skiing community.

The skiing community is quite small. Even in Europe in the alps.

Thank you for the video suggestion. I'll suggest one back...
