brief soapbox moment:

Without going into too much detail, I've personally had to deal with a grossly inept family court/CPS system here in Tejas. I've watched films like "Divorce Court", and thank my lucky stars my experiences were not as grueling as some of those tales. One of my best friends here has been divorced for EIGHT YEARS and is still being dragged through the ringer by her blatantly corrupt ex husband over custody of their 2 kids, mostly facilitated by corrupt and incompetent lawyers who have taken thousands of dollars from her.

Then I read this gem about the corruption in Santa Clara county (CA) family court:

Anonymous Catches Bigger Fish in Family Court Sting

for once, read the comments section. this is a serious problem across the country that harms parents and puts children at risk. and yet . . .

one has to wonder WHY the media mostly ignores this issue.

We have crusaded for years to expose and fix a corrupt judiciary and child welfare system in PA, being mocked and maligned by many groups, including so called "CSA advocates" (who seem to perpetuate myths which only keep children at risk). It gets frustrating how much they would rather focus on the bright shiny object of a college football coach/program rather than actually address the rot within the system.

Siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh

sorry, I know a lot of us can relate . . .

Jeff,
I recently had jury duty in Denton county on a misdemeanor Assualt/Family Violence case. It was pretty eye opening for me. I think you will especially be shocked at my thoughts. Looking forward to discussing it the next time I see you

Wife is in court right now....Treasurer of a PTA has been charge with embezzling $6000 over two years. Yet, they have no records of the income, no records of lost money, and the only person investigated is the accused (in this system, mom gives her daughter ten dollars to give to the boy in class who was the son of the treasurer's neighbor, what could go wrong?). The PTA had as much money in the bank when she quit as when she started. There were no activities cancelled or scaled back.

She's going to get convicted because the prosecutor has designs on a low end political position, to start with, and the judge shares his party affiliation.

Courts are a mess.

As we all know; there are three sides to every story.

A good settlement in family court is when both sides are equally unhappy. Nobody walks away from family court thrilled with the outcome. There is simply too much emotion involved for the parties, their family and friends, to view things objectively. Consequently the lawyers, judges, hearing officers, etc. are criticized as corrupt, incompetent, biased, and evil, when in fact they are trying to make the best of bad situations.
