OT: Covers better than the original

Holy F that’s fantastic I saw JJ at the VILLE in ‘82?

Lucky you I bet it was fantastic. Joe Jackson, IMO, does not nearly get the credit he deserves.
Look Sharp and Night and Day are exceptional albums with some wildly different styles of music. Throw in Body and Soul and you've got about 4 different music genres.

you are on meth ?

answers: Green Manalishi ( Judas Priest covering Fleetwood Mac ); and Black Magic Woman ( Santana covering Fleetwood Mac) ....
I'm partial to Black Magic Marker, our bar tour theme song covering Santana's cover. Unfortunately it was only a cappella and sung offkey by a bunch of drunks.

On the bright side it was never actually recorded.

Here is a cover that changed my whole feel of a song. The original (Grass Roots) just felt bubble gum poppy. This cover by the Replacements gives it the desperation and passion the lyrics deserve.

This is by far the best, most popular, and most successful cover song ever.

COVER

ORIGINAL
I get it, the opening lines sound very similar, but that chord progression was not written by Taurus either. The descending root note through a minor chord appears in many jazz songs and likely originated from a classical composition. Not to mention that Zep resolves it differently and also takes Stairway in 4 other directions. Entirely possible that

If you really want to highlight Zep's thievery, I would go Dazed and Confused. They made that song way better than the original.

I realize that. My point is that the Social Distortion cover is better than the Johnny Cash cover which is better than the original.

I think they're both good. I couldn't come up with which version is better.

This one will be originals that are better than the well known covers.
Or maybe just songs you didn't know were covers.

Girls just wanna have fun - Cindy Lauper

Hanging on the phone - Blondie

Tainted Love - Soft Cell
the original is amazing hard hitting floor filling soul

I want Candy - Bow Wow wow

I got my Mind Set On You - George Harrison

Almost forgot about Wagon Wheel, take your pick...Bob Dylan with the original, then covers by Old Crow Medicine Show, Mumford and Sons, Darius Rucker, etc.

Wrong on both accounts. Peter Green’s versions are better. And I am a big Judas Priest and Santana fan.

Actually, co-written by Dylan and Secor (OCMS). Dylan recorded a chorus and never finished it. Secor did the verses years later.
