Has anyone switched to Directv NOW....the streaming version of Directv. It is much cheaper. I guess the only thing is you can't DVR right now...but I think you can watch most shows on demand. Thanks for any insight.

I don't know anyone who's done this, but I will tell you, as a long-time Directv satellite subscriber, it's really gone way downhill since AT&T took over. Customer service, which used to be pretty good, is now extremely deficient. Changes have been made in the guide that are awful, and nobody wanted. Prices go up, even during your contract period, so no price is locked in. YOU are locked in, but they are not.

Take it for what it's worth, but that company is headed very much in the wrong direction.

Free 4k Apple TV if you try it for 3 months.
$105 for that 3 months for the most basic plan). Why not try it?
I plan to..

The stench of AT&T began to waft up a couple years ago for many of us long-time DIrecTV subscribers... i took my dish off my garage roof two years ago and have zero regrets.... it’s a similar revenue-addicted attitude that our athletic department displays...

I agree with your sentiments on AT&T. I have noticed the same thing about Directv. I am thinking about cutting it and trying something else. I have been with directv for two decades and I loved them but agree AT&T is dragging them down big time.

The new Guide is awful. It is very hard to read. I don't understand why they decided to change the Guide in the first place I see no positive improvements and only many negatives. Was it change for change sake? Thoughts?

Currently still have Comcast but have researched other options. If we make a change we will likely keep Comcast for internet and basic cable and go with PlayStation Vue for some of the channels we drop when downgrading cable package level. DTN has some good tiered packages but like others have stated, AT&T will probably screw that up as well.

I've had DirectTV Now since the launch and I like it. It even works well with my crappy Verizon ISP. As others have said, the guide leaves, something to be desired and I don't get the local channels, which I don't really miss. They are currently Beta Testing a cloud DVR service.

I have Direct tv now. I love it. I pay 40/month for 120 channels and hbo. I added cbs all access for another 5/month. Having DTVN alows you to login to pretty much all of the tv apps for some local stuff as well. Pretty much nothing that I cannot watch. Also, got the free apple tv with 3 months prepayment. I recommend it. Really, the only downsides are the menu (which isn't that bad) and the fact that you can only stream it on 2 devices at the same time.

The thing with streaming services if you want ESPN and BTN you pay around $45 if you add the cost of internet service is it really a better deal than cable? I like hulu the best.

I intended to try Hulu, Direct TV Now, Sling, YouTube, and Vue with each of their one week free subscriptions. I tried Hulu first and had no reason to try any of the others. It has everything I need and with their Original series it is hard to beat at 40.00 per month. Nbc and Fox live with cbs and abc on demand.

Related my depressing 20 year history with DirecTV a few months back. Cancelled them and tried PlayStation VUE for a few months, but it's not 1080 and only delivers stereo sound. Trying DISH (just one dish and one over air antenna supplies the whole house); the DISH ANYwhere app is also terrific, but it's tied to your base Hopper (with 16 tuners). That said, my daughter at UGA logs into Anywhere and it's just like she's here; gets all the stations including my over air locals (both Baltimore and DC).

It's just a matter of time until everything will be streamed. Hopefully the broader competition of online offerings will benefit us all in terms of price and selection (e.g., ala carte).

I cut the cord. I pulled the coaxial cable off my dish and put it on an OTA antenna. Now for free I get ABC, CBS,FOX, NBC, PBS and PBS kids sling with a couple others. Picture is great and it is an easy setup.

I am currently using direct tv now because i wanted the free 4K Apple TV for 3 months up front. Like getting the Apple TV 4K 50% off and getting 3 free months of direct tv now to try. I have no complaints at this time. I will probably try another service after the 3 months. Probably PlayStation Vue will be next unless someone else is giving something away for a upfront subscription.

Financially it is when you consider the cost of cable boxes in every room. I know when I was with DirecTv I had to pay $6 per month per box and double or triple that for the genie (after the free period or whatever promo I had at that point). So yes if I'm paying ~$100 for internet and vue it's close to the base price of cable, but I'm not having to pay an additional $25+ box fee per month to have tv in multiple rooms. I can instead purchase multiple rokus and within a year they have been "paid off" compared to the cable box plan.

Not to mention you are still paying for your internet along with direct tv. Internet is a service I assume we all would be paying for as a cord cutter or not. So the price comes down to streaming service vs direct tv/dish/cable. Is the OTA antenna / streaming service as clean, good or easy to navigate? Nope, but I get all I need and save a ton of $$$.
