hurts to get confirmation. I'm trying to figure out why part of a string of lights(supposedly if one light goes out, the rest stay on) won't light. I checked the two fuses with a continuity tester and both have continuity so they both should be good, right? Any guesses as to what else could be going on?

Plug a lamp into the outlet to make sure it works. If it does, It is most likely the plug of the string of lights. Perhaps someone pulled the cord out of the plug thingy. You may be able to repair that and tape it with electrical tape or cut the cord and buy a new plug at Home Depot/Lowes.

Yes, the lights were made in China and they aren't worth a damn.:)

Can't be that because part of the string of lights does light, which it wouldn't do if the plug was bad.

Make sure you don't have any loose lights. Burnt out lights are one thing, missing a light (being loose) is another. Also, make sure you don't have too many burnt out lightbulbs or you'll have the same problem. You already checked the fuses, so if none of this works then you've got a broken internal wire and there's nothing you can do about that.

I do believe that you're right. Looks like that's my next assignment, and hopefully I'll end up with a useable string.
