Will be visiting Penn State this weekend with the extended family and we're a party of eight (plus two toddlers). Staying at the NLI and hoping to spend Saturday walking the town and around campus (back to VA on Sunday). We're thinking of Whiskers for lunch and then no idea for dinner. We can drive wherever but want something family friendly. Any ideas? And thanks in advance!

I have kids and we usually go to the Deli, Champs or Lettermans. I believe all menus are online. Heard the new renovated restaurant at Toftrees is casual and good.

I'm always a fan of Facial Luna's. With kids maybe Highway Pizza or Baby's. Highway Pizza is actually a pretty nice family style restaurant.

Deli is fine. We take a gang in there once in a while. At one time we had 6-8 persons in our group traveling to games, Deli worked fine. May need 40-60 minutes wait, but they give a gizmo to carry or contact your phone when seating is available. We usually hit the local shops while waiting to be called.

Deli is very underrated--I think they have really good food.

Faccia Luna is also very good.

HVBC isn't really a family place, but I think everything there is vastly overrated....just like sister restaurants Champs and Ale House.

Highly recommend Gardens (Penn Stater) Sunday brunch. A wide variety of stuff that's really good.

Agree with the poster who said stay away from The Diner. It's a neat place inside with a lot of history....but it's absurdly scummy. I wouldn't eat a thing that came out of there, including the stickies.

Ottos is a good mix of family friendly and adult.

It's been a long time since I've been to Toftrees, but I assume this means LePapillon no longer exists? That's where on bended knee I proposed to my wife many years ago.

If the weather is decent, I can't think of anything better than Hoagies on the Old Main Lawn.. Kids can run around.

If the feeling hits anyone, they can hoist tires up the flagpole, have them fall to the base like the ultimate "ringer" and wait to see how/if the Old Main Brain Trust figures out how to get them off.

American Ale House on Cricklewood Drive. You won't be disappointed.

I second that. Every time we're out there at dinner time we see families enjoying themselves. The last time there were two families adjacent to us. In each case there were young children at the tables. It was always that way at the original smaller Otto's.

LePapillon closed a long time ago. I think the space is used for banquets only. The restaurant in the bar, the Eagles' Nest, sucks.

You also have Hoss's, which isn't bad for a chain. One is on N. Atherton. I don't tend to eat there while in HV, as there are other choices Mrs KG and I like--but we don't have kids. We have gone to Hoss's outside of State College.
