OT: Favorite baseball player from a team you didn’t like

That’s a great question, with many possible choice. I’m a Reds fan, so from the remaining teams I guess I would have to go with Dale Murphy. Always seemed like a good, classy guy. And his autograph is on the baseball glove I still use to play fat, old man church league softball. The RBG36.

Smoltz, Maddox, Glavine and Avery.

The posed question was: Favorite baseball player(s) from a team you didn’t “like”. How was it not hard to “love” that rotation? :)

I am a yankee and pirate fan so here goes

Tony Gwynn
Kirby Puckett
Pete Rose
Greg Maddux

Kirby’s sister was my boss’s secretary and I had a chance to spend time with him on countless occasions. One of the nicest and most considerate people I’ve ever met in my life. Had tickets for me whenever I wanted them at Comisky, always behind the plate and always sitting with the Twins’ friends, spouses and families.

His early death was devastating to anyone that ever knew him. Truly a class act in every sense of the word.

Red Sox fan here;

Mo Rivera and, currently, Judge. both Yankees. Both just seem to be genuinely nice guys. Ahhh, miss the good ‘ol days of the heated rivalry. Guess I’m mellowing

Strange question, but I might root for some ex-Phils

Shilling with the Dbacks and Red Sox
Victorino with the Red Sox
Utley with the Dodgers
Hamels with the Rangers
The Bull with the White Sox
I root against any player from the Evil Empire

***Not Burrell because I could not stand that Giant team and he was never a favorite of mine.

Only teams I 'didnt like' were Mets, Braves and Yanks (80's / 90's guy) I loved watching Gooden against anyone but the Bucs, same with Maddux.

Jeter and A. Rod. I liked them as players, I just hate the damn Yankees.

Ferguson Jenkins, Ernie Banks, and Billy Williams. Three of the nicest guys in baseball at the time. Don't like the Cubs now, but with those guys they were hard not to like. Also liked Bob Gibson, Roger Maris, and Gaylord Perry.

Jose Cruz, Houston Astros. Loved the big kick when at bat.

So does Luis Sojo. Is he great?

I was commenting in jest anyway, just love the "Jeter was overrated" folks followed by the enraged Yankee fan response.
It’s all good. Not claiming he was the greatest SS if all time, but even though I’m not a Yankee fan, I have a ton of respect for how he played and how he carried himself constantly in the spotlight. He was the straw the stirred the drink on those Yankee teams and he owned NYC. Got a ton of first class tail while he was at it too.

I just hope the story that he had gift baskets for women as they left in the morning is true.

David Ortiz. Boy do I hate those Red Sox’s. I just can’t dislike the man. He’s just straight up a good dude.

Frank Robinson. A lot of people thought he was a dirty player but he just played the game hard. Very hard.
Being a Mets fan for 50 years, I have seem some great pitchers come down the pike (Seaver, Koosman, Ryan, Gooden, deGroom) but I never saw a pitcher with more intensity or competitiveness than Bob Gibson. His career speaks for itself but IMO, he belongs in the Hall of Fame on his 1968 record alone, 38 earned runs in over 300 innings pitched. How the hell did he ever lose 9 games?
