A few years ago two buddies jointed me for a "Hippie Fest" in the Stroudsburg, PA area. Leslie West from Mountain doing Mississippi Queen, Country Joe McDonald from Country Joe and the Fish, Felix Pappalardi from The Young Rascals, and a half dozen other bands from the era. The chick who did Candles in the Rain or the one who did Brand New Key, don't remember which was there, too. The last band was Canned Heat and they stole the show with Going Up the Country, On the Road Again, and a couple of other songs. Great concert and it was anticipated it would be an annual event, but the venue could not make money due to the out of the way location, I suspect. Although a number of the original members are no longer with the band, they stayed true to the sound and songs of the 1960's.But you didn't see Canned Heat at Woodstock because if you did, you clearly wouldn't remember it.
I haven't seen any of them but that sounds like a great lineup.
Just a point or 2, Felix Pappalardi was in Mountain with Leslie West, the Felix in the Young Rascals, was Felix Cavaliere. How about Melody? for the chick, IIRC she did the roller skate thing, but I could be wrong!!!A few years ago two buddies jointed me for a "Hippie Fest" in the Stroudsburg, PA area. Yikes! Being a bona fide child of the sixties, I'm lucky I remember having gone. The Felix I saw was with the Rascals. One guy I went with was a drummer in bands in the late 60's at PSU and he was a Rascals and Felix fan. Back in the 60's I saw Steppenwolf, Chicago, The Association, The Doors, The Beatles, Janice Joplin, each in a separate concert. At the Hippie Fest, the chick made a joke about Brand New Key and Candles in the Rain, the punch line being, no, that was the other chick.Just a point or 2, Felix Pappalardi was in Mountain with Leslie West, the Felix in the Young Rascals, was Felix Cavaliere.
