great write up on Polygon about House of 1000 Corpses, Rob Zombie's daring, shocking, and bold resurrection of 70s horror films:

"The Walking Dead" fans may appreciate the film featured Chris Hardwick right before he made his big turnaround to become a massive media star. and Dwight from "The Office" :p

I prefer the sequel The Devil's Rejects, which boasts a better cast, and an incredible soundtrack (I credit this film for helping me discover Terry Reid, Jimmy Page's original choice for lead singer of Led Zeppelin)

In no particular order, here are some of my favorite horror films of the past 20 years:

The Mist
I Saw the Devil
The Descent
Dawn of the Dead (remake)
28 Weeks Later (that opening tracking shot . . . just holy smokes)
The Cabin in the Woods (one of the most amazing 3rd acts in film)
V/H/S 2 (the Gareth Evans segment is one of the best short horror films in history)

Another great one from 1982, Creepshow with 80's hottie Adrienne Barbeau.

Amityville Horror (original), Exorcist and nearly anything that is loaded with edgeofyourseat suspense. Oh yeah, there was some cheesy trilogy in the '80's where the first two weren't that good but the 3rd involved some creepy little tiki doll wielding a knife. The girl/victim tried to trap it in an oven at the end to burn it but it still got her.

(and no, it's not the tiki from the Brady's trip to Hawaii)

LOL, I remember that one. I think it was called Trilogy of Terror.

watched Deliverance this morning . . . brilliant acting all around, especially Voigt and Ned Beatty. Great performance from Burt Reynolds in one of his first roles.

Suspenseful and terrifying, what amazed me was how many 80s horror movie tropes this film covered in 1972

Cabin in the Woods is brilliant, and hilarious in parts as well.

28 Days Later is great - can watch that again and again. The scene in the church is fantastic.

Not much into horror films, although I've seen the Halloween and Friday the 13th. Watched The Blair Witch Project
a while back, and that flick was creepy. See they have a remake out, and I'll be sure not to watch it.

interesting back story on Cabin In the Woods. . .

apparently Hollywood was going through a bit of a dry spell with horror films at the time. EVERY make up and special effects artist was out of work. Joss Wheedon got the OK to hire EVERYONE for 6 months. They set up a little "house of horrors" in a warehouse. I have a book on just the creatures created for the film. We'll never see all that talent again.

I'll also add I feel The Babadook is one of THE most over hyped horror films. Started out ok, but didn't really knock my socks off.

What's the name of the book?

the first Paranormal Activity

I just watch It Follows last night. I thought it was outstanding. Totally original and freaky as hell. Great movie
