No, no fisticuffs were involved. It's just my upper lip and it's swollen to about 4x it's normal size. No pain, minor numbness. Been taking antihistamines to try and bring it down, but I didn't do or consume anything abnormal yesterday. Had a similar case once before, but not nearly to this extreme. I look like Howard the Duck.

Anyone else ever experience this, or do you know someone who has? Any advice welcome. The internet was of little to no help. Putting on some cold compresses now.

Any chance it was a reaction to an insect bite, maybe a spider while you slept? Regardless, I would call my family doctor, or take a trip to the emergency room. Better safe than sorry. Good luck.

Did someone slip you a collagen injection?

Seriously, I hope you are O.K.

If it is bigger then Desmond Howard's, you might want to seek medical attention.

My guess would be an insect bite of some type.
I've not had direct confirmation but I"ve been told those little asian lady bug looking beetles that get into the cracks of your house in the fall will bite.

I thought of a better idea...you should track down the wife and go for a roll in the hay. That usually makes me feel better! :D

Do yo take heart meds-ace inhibitors?

Been on low doses of atorvastatin and lisinopril for many years with no side effects. No apparent insect bites. Was trying to think what I could have come in contact with yesterday, and the only out of the ordinary thing was a new mini fridge that I unboxed/unwrapped and put in place.

You may be allergic to Lisinopril. That happened to me, but much worse. My cheeks, tongue, and throat swelled up. I was on a pretty high dose and had been using it for awhile.

I'd get it looked at today. lip swelled 4x does not sound trivial. probably a cold sore but that is a heckuva cold sore.

Maybe no need for emergency room, but how about the Rite Aids or CVSs that have nurse practitioners on duty. They are designed for walk-ins. If it's a bacterial infection you would want to get something for it ASAP.

Or at very least go to your neighborhood pharmacist. If they recognize it there may be something they can sell you over the counter. They'll at least be able to tell you whether it's worth a doctor visit.

I know someone that had something similar. The docs thought it was either an allergic reaction to something he ate or a spider bite. I think the docs gave him Benadryl.

I found out I was allergic to apples when my lips swelled after eating one. Can eat them only if they're baked - even just cutting up an apple and baking it for awhile makes it okay for me to eat. Have no idea why. Before that happened, though, I had eaten apples for years with no problem. So don't rule out it being something that you ate just because you didn't eat anything out of the ordinary.

If your lip swelled that much, I'd go to the doctor.

Are you (or do you know if you are) allergic to shellfish? My brother-in-law swells up like that every once in a while after eating shrimp.

I know we are friggin brilliant lot on this board, but since (I assume) none of us stayed at a Holliday Inn Express last night, I'd skip asking us and get straight to the nearest medical facility.
I WOULD HAVE TO SAY---"PIERCE THE LIP WITH A PIN AND SQUEEZE"
or maybe seek medical treatment
or seek cliff clavin

Many years ago. A co-worker of mine (a different one from a previous thread earlier today) once said to a another female co-worker that she woke up with a sore throat that morning. And I chipped in right away by asking her if her husband woke up with a smile on his face. She didn't get it but the other female co-worker started laughing.

Who told him to put the balm on?

I am shocked and chagrined, mortified and stupefied. This trial is outrageous! It is a waste of the taxpayers’ time and money. It is a travesty of justice that these four people have been incarcerated while the real perpetrator is walking around laughing - lying and laughing, laughing and lying. You know what these four people were? They were innocent-bystanders. Now, you just think about that term. Innocent. Bystanders. Because that’s exactly what they were. We know they were bystanders, nobody’s disputing that. So how can a bystander be guilty? No such thing. Have you ever heard of a guilty bystander? No, because you cannot be a bystander and be guilty. Bystanders are by definition, innocent. That is the nature of standing. But no, they want to change nature here. They want to create a whole new animal - the guilty bystander. Don’t you let them do it. Only you can stop them.

Google Oral Allergy Syndrome. Similar to peanut allergy. I was same as you. Mid 20s started getting reaction to apples, peaches, etc. OAS is impacting many people. Likely because the genetic make-up of food has changed. If you got to Costa Rica or similar country and eat fruit you will not get the reaction. Crazy....

Fresh Mangos might do that as well. They are part of the plant family that includes Poison Ivy. Any redness or blistering?

Posting to a FB board is certainly the right first move, though you might be "vulnerable" if your lip doesn't react the way you might like. Beware- You can easily be fooled by Mangos!!!!!

Almonds do this to my wife.

You need to stop the lisinopril and call your doctor immediately. ACE inhibitor induced angioedema can be serious.
