PSU uses a DE because there's no WR in the normal punt protection package. Putting one in there might give the opposing team a clue that a fake punt was called, thereby putting that WR's immediate health and well-being in jeopardy.
True. Clemson threw the ball to Wilkins on their fake punt. He's around 320 pounds I think. If you deviate from the norm, it's easy for the opposing staff to pick up on.
We are deviating from the norm. It's just some want it fixed now. In 2 years these same whiney fans will be thumping their chests the loudest.
All too true, just not at the last minute...I'm all in favor of having someone like a TE in a punt blocking role, a guy who is (supposed to be) able to block but also knows how to run with the ball.
Normally I'd agree with you but none of our TE's can block anyone so my choice was Koa Farmer. He's been under used all year. Heck even Geno Lewis would have been a better option.
I thought the call was a good one.. Unfortunately the GA player made a great play. Schwan runs well for a big man. Our fan base would have loved it if it worked. Franklin was playing to win and needed to do the unexpected to get some points. Good call from my perspective.
