OT I wonder what the top 5 NIL deals are

in PSU basketball and wrestling. How much are we paying to lose badly?
I read that wrestlers will get an average of $2,500 from revenue sharing. Maybe a comparable amount from NIL. The top guys probably get their own sponsorship deals.

I read that basketball players will get an average of $200,000 from revenue sharing which is more than what an average football player will get. The reason is there are only 14 players. I wouldn't be surprised if they average another $100,000 from NIL. It would take $1,000,000+ to attract a top 20 player. My guess is it will take $500,000 combined to keep a player like Konan.

Just educated guesses on my part.

does it have to be paid equally among all players? If not there is a lot of $ for 2-3 superstars.
super irony for a bunch that can not consistently inspire decent attendance. The Carver Clinton, Ray Saunders team was the best in my 62 years of Penn State.

Well, last I checked wrestling is doing pretty good. No idea what the basketball players are getting paid, but I’d venture to guess it’s much less than what schools that make the tournament more frequently than once a decade are paying.

Also revenue sharing and NIL are completely separate buckets.

We know that NIL can be apportioned. Allar might get $800k while a 3* freshman OL might get $50k.

I'm not sure if schools have the same discretion with revenue sharing. I think that was Mary's question.

We are losing in bb. Only a low IQ or hateful person would have interpreted as you did.
For starters your post said basketball and wrestling. Secondly basketball was turning the corner until they let chambers go. The Covid team was built for a deep run. If they want to win they need to hire a big time coach. No mid tier coach will build a program at PSU.

I don’t know about revenue sharing obligations as the rules are apparently still being finalized. I think it would stand to reason that rev shares can also be distributed based on the organizations discretion just as salaries are for the vast majority of non-contract workers.

As we know, there are no rules around NIL. Each and every player has the ability to earn millions of dollars or 0 based on market value, although I think NIL deals are far exceeding players actual commercial value in most cases.

NIL was intended to allow student athletes to sell their NIL much like a regular student can have a job on the side. But now they don't even have to try to market themselves. The collectives just give them money. That doesn't seem like the original intent but the NCAA has lost all control. Curtis Enis has to be shaking his head.

PSU was doing a respectable job with their interim coach and that carried into Shrewsberry's first year. Then Shrewsberry jumped ship and took recruits with him. I thought Rhoades did a terrific job bringing in players like Baldwin, Johnson, and Kern in very short notice. His first team was competitive in the BiG finishing 9-11 and virtually everybody was coming back this year. I really thought Rhoades was the guy as we started 10-2 with a blowout win over Purdue. Injuries to Baldwin and Johnson were an unfortunate setback but something much deeper seemed to happen. Instead of fighting through adversity the team seemed to quit on him. Defense was all about getting steals but nobody was fighting through picks, closing out on 3 pt shooters, blocking out, getting rebounds, and getting 50/50 balls. I want to give Rhoades the benefit of the doubt but that was ugly. Now he has to turn the team around by virtually starting from scratch. There aren't any players he can bring with him like he did from VT.

All correct. Right from the start NIL was bastardized and about .02% of these kids are actually engaging in any sort of marketing or endorsement deals that are providing ROI for commercial enterprises.
