LOL, it's uncanny how consistently that script has been followed the last few years. I'ts been Groundhog Year for the Sixers lately. The kid from Duke or the kid from Kentucky. Either way, they could have a formidable and young front court. Of course, this pre supposes that the kid goes through the mandatory "I got drafted by the Sixers but have to sit out a year because I have an injury" requirement.
Sam Hinkie feeling the heat?
Would he draft another big man early? He could be approaching Matt Millen's draft a WR approach to the Lions' problems.
I think if Embiid were 100% healthy, or he had no injury history, then the in the scenario where the Lakers take Russell, the Sixers would definitely be looking to trade back. But remember, Noel had an ACL just 2 years ago. Embiid had back and foot injuries in the last 12 months. Okafor is a big time talent.
The best case (or worst case depending on your point of view) is that they draft Okafor, and then Embiid and Noel play 100% healthy. The headache the Sixers then have is that they have 3 very good, very young big men trying to squeeze minutes into 2 positions. But if this were to happen... let's say the 2015/16 season Embiid, Noel, and Okafor all player 75-82 games and they all play to potential. Then the Sixers would be sitting in an awesome position to deal 1 of them for a King's Ransom.
If Russell's gone he should draft Okafor.
I completely agree. Unless someone completely blows you away with an offer you can't refuse, you have to just sit there and take Okafor. They have multiple picks in the first round next year which they can use to get the best guard available. Embiid, Okafor, Noel is not a bad problem to have.
