OT - Lawn mowers - I know there have been multiple threads

Not so fast my friend/ami. Honda recently outsourced "some" (akin to @michnittlion and his cookie count) of their engine manufacturing to Taiwan.

Trust me, the outsourced engines aren't the same. The differences are noticeable especially from the "first pull", which surprisingly doesn't ignite the engine, or the 2nd or 3rd.

It's important to check serial numbers on modern Honda engines to determine manufacturing origin.

I’d like to know where you heard that from... their website acknowledges that small engines are produced in 5 Honda plants worldwide ...

I should have typed Thailand instead of Taiwan..... my error.

I’m dealing with one now. It’s a GX200 installed on a new pressure washer.

Contrary to what I have seen up-thread, I have had a very good experience with a "Powermore EZ Start" Remington RM 120, 21" 159 cc mower. (I believe Remington is owned by MTD) Model No. 11A-B22J783, which I bought 4.3 years ago from Menards. It is the best mechanical device I have ever owned.

I have a relatively large corner lot, and it has been flawless. 99.9% of the time, it starts on the first pull. (Twice it has started on second pull) I change the oil every season, but I am still on the original spark plug. I just plain love the mower.

How many lawns do you mow each week? Do you have a partner to man the leaf blower while you mow?.

This thread is hilarious. My neighbor & I moved in at the same time. We talked about what mower to buy. I went with a Craftsman Briggs & Stratton & he went with a Honda for 3x the cost. My analysis was that if the Craftsman was only 50% as reliable as the Honda, I'd save $ over him.

25 years later ... We both have moved on to our second Mowers, mostly due to deck issues, not engine troubles. So ... he's spent 6X my initial investment, and I'm at 2X.

At this point, in comparison, I'm playing with house money. In 15 years, if I need another one, I could by the best available and would still be ahead of the game.

Another way to look at it is - if I had NOT bought any mower and just hired a lawn service, I'd still have paid less than him and with zero work.

Show your numbers, you shouldn't even get close hiring a service unless your cutting season is really short, you pump up the costs by adding $100 a season for maintenance/servicing and hiring a local kid who charges you $25 a cut.

A) that’s some sample-size you’re drawing from..
B) your lawn service is either an 11 year old kid or involves some facet of sex-trafficking (hopefully not both) ;)

My OTHER next door neighbor went over to his OTHER next doot neighbor's lawn service crew. He offered them $15/week (3/4 acre) to just kind of include his lawn in the neighbor's service (without trimming, edging, blowing, just to cut 90% of the lawn). Despite a bit of a language barrier, they had no problem with that deal, which saves him a fair amount of time 26 weeks a year.

Even at that price for 25 years costs nearly $10k, two full featured Honda mowers would be $1400, without getting into the weeds, it still doesn't and won't get you close.

Lowe's has a Craftsman body w Honda motor - $269.
Home Depot has Honda/Honda - $349
Didn't find a local place nearby.
Both 160 cc / 21 in

My mower of choice is an Ariens. Take advice above buy from a local dealer and not a Big Box Store. I had that lasted me 12 years.

over the years but I am now in need of a new lawn mower.
Just your basic push mower for an average size yard in a subdivision in Louisiana.
Do not want self-propelled. TIA

I bought a Toro Self Propelled 8 years ago. The self propulsion quit about a year ago , but it still starts first pull. I live in FL so I mow every week. I also don’t change mower oil. The mower deck is slightly rusted near the bagger. 4/5 stars.
