Patty Tavatanakit is doing her best Bryson DeChambeau impersonation at the LPGA's first major of the year. Even when she drives it in the rough she has a short wedge to the green with her booming drives. But almost more impressive is the number of one putts she had Saturday walking in putt after putt. She's still considered a rookie because of Covid-19 and is 21. The final round is this evening eastern time and it's worth a look. She's playing amazing golf and leads by 5 strokes.

I watched a bit yesterday. She is impressive. I was looking for my neighbor Jaye Marie - I think she's tied for 20th.

Jaye Marie is very streaky. You can see she has tons of talent. Hopefully she'll break through and get a win soon.

Watched the Women's Amateur from Augusta yesterday. I wish Augusta would host an LPGA Masters every September. They’re excellent players and usually very pleasing to the eye.

The women have 5 majors already, maybe the ANGC doesn’t want to get in the middle of any potential conflict. Also, correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t AN close after the Masters until October?

In any case, I am watching the young kids now and really love this drive/chip/putt event.

Just another indication that modern equipment is changing the game. If Jack Nicklaus in his prime had access to today's equipment he might have hit 500 yard drives.

Yes, closes at the end of Oct. An LPG Event at AN in late September would be huge. Would be a high boost to the LPGA Tour

Equipment helps, but there's more to it than equipment when you are far out-driving the competition playing with the same equipment.
I agree. I just wonder how some of the old timers (Nicklaus, etc.) would strike the ball with today's equipment and modern training techniques.

I suspect the course and the conditions maybe playing a roll in her driving distances this week. For the year she’s averaging 268.1 yards off the tee. DeChambeau averages 320 yards off the tee.

Again she far out drove the other competitors. What a closing round for Lydia Ko shooting a 62 and finish two behind! And earlier Jordan Speith got a win. A good day of golf. Masters week is upon us.

Brooks was on the range at Augusta today. Hard to believe. He still has not scratched after his recent surgery.

You expect Bryson's violent swing and his body transformation to yield killer driving distance. On the other hand, how the hell does Patty get that kind of distance with her small stature and easy swing???

Patty Tavatanakit does not seem like that good of a putter, all that I saw here make were 3-6 footers for birdie.........
If you have enough 3-6 footers for birdie to score 20 under or so, you are doing everything right. PGA make % from 8 ft is 50%. Nobody makes bombs for a living, other than Jordan for a few years, and then he was out of the picture until this year for a few years.
Dave Pelz more or less gave up on making putts over 8ft., and said focus on your wedges being inside of 8ft.

I was being sarcastic......she had the whole game going....driving, iron play and putting. I once heard someone say about my pool playing partner that he was not such a good player, he always had straight shots into the pocket.......

Lydia Ko is a prime example of what I am saying. Her driving distances were way up this week as well. Prior to this tournament her average drives were in the 250 range. This tournament her average drives were up in the mid-280s. Ko and Spieth‘s careers sort of mirror each other. They both started out with enormous success at an early age then they both went into prolonged slumps. I’m glad to see both playing better. Lydia will win again too. AND, LIKE YOU, I AM REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO THE MASTERS !!!!!!!!!!!

I see your point, but that would truly be impossible. They do regulate the equipment for a maximum ball exiting speed that would not allow for that.

They cut these fairways like putting greens in these pro tournaments and these players get 40 yards of roll, something you and I will never get at our muni's. To be honest, its all fairly scientific, you can do the math on 120 MPH swing, smash factor, and MPH ball speed off the club and know with pretty close certainty how far the ball should carry. Now, factor in a downhill fairway cut like a putting green and it might roll another 50 yards. Average carry distance is hovering around 275. Good weekend golfers that can pump it probably average 230 carry.

I was very disappointed with the number of spectators allowed at The Masters.
