University of Mary Washington rugby team chant was recorded and now comes back to haunt them.
I have a hunch more videos or recordings will surface that predate the Rolling Stone article that seemed to precipitate all these leaks.

trouble

Am I one of the few that's never heard of this university ? This falls in

does anybody care category.

LOL. All Rugby songs have sexually explicit lyrics. What else would you sing about?

I've never heard of it either. The school wouldn't release the chant or say what it contained other than vague 'explicit and derogatory lyrics' type stuff. It was done at a party off campus. I think we are at a point here of over reaction by colleges. I sometimes wonder if these same university administrators who (like Emmert) like to claim moral superiority in these cases ever actually listen to the lyrics of the songs played over the loudspeakers (by their university) at their foitball and basketball games. Are they going to roam the dorms and quads now trying to find explicit and derogatory lyrics being played by individuals and then suspend them too?

No link to chant since the school would not release.

How bad could a chant by a bunch of testosterone raging, rugby playing college boys be?

I think we are reaching that point and it's troubling.

This is ridiculous. Apparently the men's and women's rugby teams were having an off-campus party, and a drinking song about having sex with a dead shore was sung. Some campus feminists got hold if a video, causing the uber-PC administration to go nuts.

It's sort of in the same broad category of the PSU administration banning the usual 'P....S....U....Lets go PSU!" song the band used to play as the football team took the field because (IIRC) the author was accused of abuse in the past (?).

When I was in the Blue Band between 1988 and 1992, one of the cheers that we would yell to the drum cadence on our parade route to the stadium was, "Wine her, dine her, sixty-nine her! 1-2-3-4! Go State!" Some band members thought it was over the top, but no one complained loudly. We occasionally changed it to "Candy's dandy, liquor's quicker! 1-2-3-4! Go State!", which no one liked. As a result, the "Wine her" chant never died completely while I was in the Blue Band. There's no way would it fly today.

Did they still sing the Fireman song when you were in the Blue Band? I was in the band and graduated in 84. I remember hearing that they stopped singing it due to complaints about the song.

I dated a girl once from Mary Washington. It is a small school in Virginia....I was not aware that men attended. I honestly thought it was an all girls school...maybe it was years ago.

Ruggers acting crewdly??

Well I thought they were all altar boys. Hang them at high noon. Good lord what is this world coming to.
