My friends from high school and I are going on our annual baseball stadium trip next week. We plan to see the Angels on Wednesday (if our flight is on time) and the Dodgers on Friday night. Might see the Padres on Saturday night. We have been doing this for about a dozen years. Usually between 5 and 8 of us.

Last year we went to KC and St. Louis and had some good recommendations from one of the posters here.

We are staying in Redondo Beach and are looking for some recommendations for some of the fun, non-touristy stuff such as micro breweries, dive bars, good and reasonably priced restaurants, beaches, etc. Since we are class of 1966 and all married, we will limit our night activities to girl watching. No, we do not need any "Chumleys" recommendations.

Appreciate any helpful suggestions. And I will laugh at the other ones. Hope I am wise enough to know the difference.

I lived in Redondo for 3 years right out of college (late 1980s). I can't help much but there is an excellent, old-school, family owned Mexican restaurant called Lucio's in Torrance (adjacent to Redondo). It is in the old town area. I was back in LA in 2015 and made a special trip there and was pleasantly surprised to see that the menu hadn't changed much, except for the prices. I had the same Numero 12 Combo Especial (Enchiladas Locos) and it was just as I remembered it. Delicious!
I found a link to their menu http://dineries.com/ca/torrance/luciosrestaurant/cabrilloave/zoom

Where in Redondo?
Just saw your post, you may already be in Cali.
The Redondo Beach Pier area has low key restaurants and bars.
Redondo, Hermosa and Manhattan Beach all have their own vibe. Manhattan is wealthy upscale but still laid back community. True So. Cal. vibe though.
Hermosa is younger party crowd.
Redondo not much night life but if you go to the south end area called Hollywood Rivera there are some restaurants and nighttime bars. On the Pier is Kincads, near by Barney's Beanery, B10, Samba, Blue Water Grill, Cheesecake Factory
Beaches, they stretch all the way north, the water is not very warm and the beach is not very full but people are out always. Surfers in early AM.
Eat/Drink:
Manhattan Beach.
The Strand House.

El Tarasco

Hermosa Beach:
The Pier Ave has many bars and restaurants

Assuming you have a car, drive around The Palos Verdes Peninsula. Take PCH South to Palos Verdes Drive, turn right (south) and when you come to the Y in PV Dr. go right, it will take you around Peninsula (called The Hill by locals) for some amazing views of ocean and cliffs. Just past Hawthorne Blvd. stop at Point Vicente Park, you'll see the lighthouse. Can't go into lighthouse but one week a month because it is Navy property but park and take the walking path back north for about two miles for some great views. (I walk my dogs here often)
Driving a little farther and stop at The Terrenea Resort, kind of expensive but a great place for a cocktail. Could go on all the way around Peninsula but it is a long drive.

Close by in Torrance there are Micro Breweries. I've been to Absolution which is okay.

Seems like you have only one day free so it may be difficult to get out to see LA because it is very spread out.

Have a great time. Both Dodger Stadium and Angeles Stadium are a bit of a drive from Redondo.

My daughter goes to college in LA. I was out there this time last year. I did the Dodger stadium tour earlier in day before a game. Was a good tour.

Ate in Manhattan beach several times. I'm a bit of a foodie. I loved restaurant called Little Sister. Great food and some good cocktail options too. Rock'nFish and Fishing with Dynamite were both good too. Or if you want food and bar in one, could go to Fish Bar.

Leave plenty of time to get to the stadiums in traffic!

If you are a car guy go to Petersens Car Museum.

Some great info. Thanks.
To PSUin CalFan: we are staying at the Crowne Plaza Thursday through Sunday. First night we are staying in Anaheim close to the stadium.
To psuro: might go to Petersens. Unfortunately the real car nut in our group won't be there this year.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will report back on the trip later this month.

Hoping for a Dodgers win!

If you like a good steakhouse with a really nice Tiki Bar ambience, Damon's in Glendale (on Brand Blvd.) is a local institution. It is roughly 5-6 miles north of Dodger Stadium. Elysian Park Drive to I-5 north, to Highway 2 north, to Highway 134 west, to Brand Blvd exit, head south over $134. It is about two to three blocks south of #134. Less than 30 minutes from Dodger Stadium if there is light to moderate traffic. Traffic headed straight north (i.e., towards Glendale) out of downtown LA is much lighter than traffic headed in the other directions, but you just never know in LA.

Highly recommend making the drive up the PCH to Malibu and having dinner at Nobu. Fantastic sushi and it's literally right on the water. The Getty Estate is also super cool and 10 minutes from Nobu.

I go there all the time. For girl watching go to Hermosa or Manhattan. Beaches are fantastic. Bunch of great bars in both places with sights all around. For low key beaches go south of the pier in Redondo. Spend a little extra and do the brunch at Tarenea resort in Palos Verdes. You wont ne disappointed. Tour the grounds they are amazing.

As a SD resident and beer lover, I say go to Stone for scenery but not for the beer. There are much better breweries in SD for beer. Mikeller, Ale Smith, Port Brewing/Lost Abbey, Societe to name a few.

Bessmoney is right. Nobu is a great spot. If you want to hit the beach, Malibu has a great spot where you can drive in and park right at the beach. You have to pay for parking, but the beach is great and they have a nice restaurant and bar right on the sand. It is called Paradise Cove, and is off PCH just a mile or two north of Pepperdine. The bar has lots of photos of movie stars who have frequented the place over the decades (it has been there for quite some time), Adirondack chairs and umbrellas on the sand, and great beach ambience.
