OT: New type of deadly tick disease now in PA per CDC

I think I'm going to start taking DEET and permethrin baths every morning.

Many people don't realize that PA is a perfect climate for ticks and how many of them there are here including NY RI CT ... ticks like cool moist climates (perfect conditions currently in PA for ticks). Most people think they like heat and warmth like FL. When in reality they like PA much more and hence why PA and north has a much higher tick population than the south.

Remember you can buy 13.3% permethrin at Agway and make your own tick tubes. Its called Ant and Termite Killer. Bonus; it kills stink bugs and box elder bugs. Just follow directions on label for proper dilution rates.

Here's a link about the life cycle of the little b@st@rds; www.natureswaypestcontrol.com/learning-center/tick-control/the-deer-tick-life-cycle/

Don't know anything about the company, not an endorsement. Just thought it was good info to know.

I'm in NEPA and have been infected with Lyme 2 separate times and my girlfriend is recently diagnosed and just finished her Doxy. At this point I'm going to start snorting permethrin every time I want to go outside.

I would recommend using Picaridin based formulas for kids. DEET based, I'm not really fond of, especially in kids.

This has made the national news.... what is not mentioned in the article is that the tick has to be "on" you for only 15 minutes for you to get infected, to get lyme disease the tick has to be on you for 24 hours, iirc.

In article linked in OP, it states you can spray your clothing with a .5% solution of permethren and it will last through several washings....thats the whole summer for me!;) Gonna mix a batch from the stuff I bought at Agway and spray everything I wear around the woods today, including sox, shoes and boots.
