OT: "Old" people stories

I was a Ship State student back in the day…

We were not allowed to go home for six weeks during our freshman year

Staying in the dorms was mandatory for freshmen

All freshmen were required to attend a dance the first night on campus

We took guns for hunting into our dorm rooms and no one said a word

There was a lounge in each dorm and that is the only place that had cable…thus you had to use rabbit ears if you had a TV in your room

Heat was not turned on in the dorms until October 15. If it got cold before that date, you better have blankets handy

Co-Ed dorms did not exist

Our entire baseball budget was $5,500. Players drove to away games and took other players. Players also drove to Florida for spring break baseball. That was NOT a good idea regardless of liability!

Maryland was still 18 for alcohol so the 30 mile trips to Hagerstown were frequent

One bar in the Newville area had all you could eat king crab legs for $9.99

Went to see Billy Joel for $3.00 & Al Stewart for $1.00. Boston was $10.00…how dare they!

I heard horror stories about that. I'm so glad I didn't have to be in dorms beyond summer 1982.
